If you like to read in bed, consider yourself a librocubicularist. If that strikes a chord, I’ve written a short piece about the language of book-loving here: susiedent.substack.com/p/between-th...

The only problem about the Guernsey film based on the book ( I am not a fan, don’t ask) is that it wasn’t filmed on Guernsey so all the scenery is wrong.

Tip: microplane a wedge of parmean and pop it into a plastic container. Then shove the container in the freezer. It will last for ages. Freeze the rind too to put into a ragu or stew for extra flavour.

Rest in peaches, Wendell Berry. And because I am not as well adjusted as he: God dammit, cosmos, take the destroyers and leave us the artists.
A Meeting

In a Dream I meet
my dead friend. He has,
I know, gone long and far,
and yet he is the same
for the dead are changeless.
They grow no older.
It is I who have changed,
grown strange to what I was.
Yet I, the changed one,
ask: "How you been?"
He grins and looks at me.
"I been eating peaches
off some mighty fine trees."
