Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Good morning BlueSky A visit to Arundel Arboretum yesterday afternoon was enjoyable and illuminating. What a wonderful collection of specimen trees and shrubs they have. This rather seasonally appropriate fungi by a Fatsia took my eye. Enjoy your day 1140
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Another quiet day at home methinks, hoping this cold will stop lingering & most definitely not head down to my chest which I have a dreadful tendency for Assignment submitted yesterday afternoon for second module of my distance learning Yay! Two rather cute shelters @ West Dean 190
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Cold has stopped exploding but is in that stage of “I’m not leaving that easily you know”. Still feeling a bit groggy but with greater hope that will pass! Mind still full of thoughts for friends who are hurting because of loss Hope we all have a good day and week ahead! 2120
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Well, who could possibly have anticipated that a sycamore would bounce back 😳 2111
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Would you like to see some autumn cyclamen? Aren’t they wonderful little jewels of colour, contrasting so beautifully with the yellows, browns, and reds more traditionally associated with autumn? Wishing peace and joy to all, especially friends who are hurting at the moment 0160
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Anyone else read this? I enjoyed it. Definitely a bit different and quite compelling. Have a good day everyone 220
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 23/09/2026This morning, as I sneezed again, I said “this almost feels like a cold” This evening I know it is a cold. Grrrrrrr. 150
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Lovely afternoon yesterday with a friend discussing all the pots on the enormous terrace outside her apartment, talking about which ones will survive winter, what maintenance should be done and when. She’s got a great collection! Soooo looking forward to having a garden again. 1130
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I learnt a new word today: negging. There’s an article about it in today’s Times and google search brings up explanations. Basically it’s another form of misogynistic bullying, apparently from the “manosphere”The word perfectly describes some dreadful behaviour I was subjected to on a group holiday 230
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Good morning If you have any interest in Sicily I do recommend this book which I’ve recently finished reading We went to Sicily earlier in the year, out on the hillsides of Etna searching for (and finding!) beautiful orchids, and somehow it’s a place that gets under the skin. 010
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Wonderful concert last night at Chichester Cathedral The Sixteen are absolutely outstanding, well worth going to one of their concerts - if you can get tickets which sell out pretty quickly This was the programme Have a good day, not sure what ours holds for us 260
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I’ve just been reading about Sealyham Terriers. Rather tempting … 130
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Good morning It’s Saturday! To be fair that makes little difference to us these days other than precious family sightings/contact opportunities are a little more likely Tickets for The Sixteen at Chichester tonight which will be wonderful Hope you have something nice in your sights too? 260
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 18/09/2026We’ve been catching up with the most recent series of Chateau DIY on C4, just finished ep 38. I’ve been driven beyond mad by the narrator repeatedly mispronouncing ginkgo with a soft g, like a j, rather than a hard g. Deeply painful. In other news it’s blowing a hoolie here at the coast. Again. 130
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Good morning BlueSky I’m rather taken with the idea of using dead wood in gardens as seen here at West Dean last week. Suspect it’s tricky to get it right in terms of placing and scale, but definitely on my list to consider Have a good day (and a reminder it’s only Thursday!) 150
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Here’s another bobbly hedge for your delectation! 0120
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 14/09/2026What happened to #OriginalRollCall today, Monday 14th September 2026? 210
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Good morning BlueSky A rare day (these days) alone today A gym session first thing & then initial exploration of the distance learning programme I recently signed up for Here’s a rather ancient tree at West Dean Phone camera was on full zoom so I was some distance away & not 100% sure what species 170
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 13/09/2026This is a definite wow for those of us “of an age” (not that I’m close to 80 … yet …) 020
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Good morning BlueSky, slightly slow start here. Loved these hydrangeas in a shady spot at West Dean yesterday. Have a great Sunday 160
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Very enjoyable outing to Wedt Dean Gardens today although beginning to feel a little autumnal. Still much of interest to see. Here are some dahlias. 290
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Decided we needed to go on an outing today so have chosen Wedt Dean as our destination. Ten years since we were last there so lots to look at I’m sure. New head gardener in that time will have introduced changes I’m sure. Have a good day whatever your plans include. 280
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Friday already! Again!! What have you got in your plans? Here are some of the spots to sit and think at Knepp Which takes your fancy? 051
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 10/09/2026A plastic edging to a circular metal mesh garden bistro table has degraded in the weather. Otherwise perfectly usable and ok We are trying to think of ways to mend/improve. Simple removing the plastic will (I think) leave an unusable sharp edge. Any ideas anyone? 401
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Good morning BlueSky I do love a bobbly* hedge! This one at Knepp. *technical term 290
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Interesting to see that the (rightly) internationally renowned garden designer Dan Pearson is closing his studio to embark on a new chapter. 130

Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Sad news last night of the “farewell to Earth” of a friend. He’d lived long and well, been a rock star in his youth, but it is always sad. RIP dear Eric and biggest hugs to those closest to him. Quiet day ahead, they’re mostly quiet at the moment, waiting for conveyancing news 🙄 080
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 08/09/2026The end of a glorious era www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...bbc.co.ukMonty Don to leave Gardeners' World after more than 20 yearsThe presenter said it had been "deeply rewarding" but added that "now is the right time for a change". 3102
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 08/09/2026I love this dahlia. We had one for a couple of summers in our French garden. Huge and glorious! 270
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 08/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Beautiful rain falling. I think a catch up with admin beckons; not much outstanding but a few things, one of which I’ve been putting off … 🥴 Hope your day promises good things for you Here’s some purple for you (Buddleia and Vernonia in the Walled Garden at Knepp) 1100
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 07/09/2026A rather splendid tree firmly rooted in the earth At NT Petworth 170
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Good morning BlueSky, a whole new week ahead! Any interesting plans? Fascinated to learn at NT Petworth yesterday that this gorgeous Titian portrait has complete provable provenance from the time of the artist himself. 041
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Head was still a little fragile so I passed on the gym this morning but we then enjoyed a wonderful few hours picnicking, chatting, looking at art, and walking at NT Petworth. It is a joy to have such a wonderful place so close by. And an especial joy to share it all with precious family. 160
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Good morning BlueSky I like to photograph compost bins when I visit gardens. Sometimes I have to search interest reaches to find them! This setup was easily found by the parking outside the Walled Garden at Knepp Have a good day whatever you’re planning 2100
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Good morning BlueSky I’m in The Times again today! 2111

Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 04/09/2026My copy has just arrived with the loveliest dedication inside. Thank you @jackwallington.com , your friendship means a lot to me too! A quick first flip through tells me this is a brilliant book which will be a joy to read and very useful to refer to again and again. Congratulations 😊 050
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Good morning BlueSky Went on a guided tour of the Walled Garden at Knepp yesterday. Very interesting and definitely lots of food for thought, but for me it’s on the very furthest reaches of what one can describe as a garden. We may well take some ideas/principles forward but won’t seek to replicate. 190
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Good morning Rather pleased to see a thriving Koelreuteria paniculata at RHSWisley on Tuesday, unusually (in our experience) displaying flowers and seed pods at the same time. We had one we loved in our French garden and would like to plant one in our new garden. Off to gym shortly. See you later! 0140
Sharon Moncur @sharonmoncur.bsky.social · 02/09/2026One more post for today: A stunning excavation and exposure of the roots of a dead tree What a brilliant idea to show onlookers what happens below ground Beautiful too RHS Wisley yesterday. 3192
