"In the states examined in this analysis, a drop of approximately 20% in inflation-adjusted rents—as happened in Austin, Texas, and Minneapolis after those cities made reforms—could reduce poverty by 18% to 26% and child poverty by 21% to 38%." www.pew.org/en/research-...

Yet you are trans. Curious.

People get demoralized when transitioning when they discover that beyond the initial identification of "the problem," transitioning itself will not make you happy. What it provides is the POSSIBILITY for happiness by allowing you to more easily participate in romance, community and self-improvement

One of my most galaxy-brained takes is that politicians and political groups should talk more about workers’ share of national income. It's one of the clearest, simplest ways to describe how billionaires and corporate elites captured so much of the economy--and something policy can change.

Mastodon didn’t take off because it’s a huge fucking pain in the ass to find places to find people to follow. Bluesky only shows me people I follow and stuff they repost. No algorithm in site. And it’s easy to connect with people. Too bad about the moderation thing.

I love that NIMBYs find a way to NIMBY even in NYC.
Also this design destroys the Brooklyn view of city muni building and the federal courthouse which are both gorgeous, so I don't like it from that standpoint either.
Wish theyd limit the height to a little lower than the top occupy-able floor in the muni.

IMO because the thesis in the 2010s was that kids succeed or fail primarily based on the resources expended or the median quality of their classmates. When the bleak reality is that (a) a lot turns on parents supplementing education at home and (b) it's not the median, but the bottom, that controls.

Trans people aren’t even asking to “be a priority”. Largely the ask is “stop allowing the destruction of our existence to be a priority.” If we hadn’t been ‘prioritized’ for the last 10 years we would be better off.

The Converse ad is vile. And it’s especially vile, *uniquely* vile because there have been at least 22 lynchings of Black people across the US since March 2025. A fact that has been largely unreported and hidden from the national conversation. Extreme TW for this report on lynchings from 2020-2025

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.

The Democrats defend the Kennedy Center but not trans people.

This point, from my recent interview with @perrybaconjr.bsky.social for TNR, is so crucial. Trans people are desperate for relief from the relentless Republican attacks impacting all of us. When Democrats move right, they signal relief may not be coming, and that engenders a lot of despair.
And so for Democrats to say, They have a point on some of this, it is engendering a lot of hopelessness and a lot of fear in the trans community, because we have been just trying to hold on, hoping that this time would end and we would be able to get back to where we were five years, six years ago. And what Democrats are signaling is, like, No, we’re going to keep things as they are, and maybe even make them worse.

We're not going to sign on and vote to eliminate ourselves from society. I don't give a shit if they're in a red state. I'd rather they lose. You can't threaten us with, it would be worse under Republicans when Dems would pass the same exact policies nationally.

We're not saying vote for the Republican. We're saying don't vote for the Dem espousing anti trans rhetoric and policies. If Dems want to win by throwing us under the bus, they can do so without our votes. Votes are not an entitlement. They make their policy decisions and we vote accordingly.

If the things you require me to sacrifice "for the greater good" are my healthcare, my safety, my bodily autonomy and my right to exist as an equal human being in your society, then it's not the good at all, and your party can burn to the ground and the nation along with it.

A trans man in the UK has been banned in the workplace restrooms after he was forced to use the women's restrooms to comply with the new EHRC guidance. The women complained because he is visibly male and so they told him he can't use any bathroom.
A screenshot of a Reddit post from the r/LegalAdviceUK subreddit by user Dijstraanon, titled "FtM transgender facing two different issues at work? England."
The post text reads:
"Brother in law is trans FtM and presents fully as a man. He's now facing an impossible situation at work with his employer telling him that due to recent legislation he must use the toilet of his birth gender. BUT several female colleagues have raised a grievance about him using their gendered toilet.
His employer has told him that he cannot use the toilet while he is at work until they sort it out and cannot give him a timeframe to do so. They do [cut off] have disabled separate toilets.
In the mean time one of his female colleagues has accused him of sexual harassment because he was used their gendered toilet. His menstrual cycle meant he needed to use the toilet.
He's been with the employer for just over 5 years but only in this location for 18 months. The location is mainly male with just a handful of females, and his workshop only has male toilets.
I do not know how to support him and as he's not in a union there is no one to turn too right now."
The post has an orange "Comments Moderated" tag, 169 upvotes, and 134 comments.

When only the GOP is asserting that trans people are a threat to women and must be socially controlled in addition to denied medical care and valid ID, the issue is partisan and divisive. When Dems agree trans ppl are dangerous & must be legislated against, the question is "how far will we go."

I think something really important about this is that private motor vehicles make everyone else "in the way." When I use active transport, I'm looking out for other people using active transport & they're (by & large) looking out for me. When I use public transport, we're all in it together.
