After all the fuss about the Department of Education "overspending" on teacher salaries last year, it turns out Ireland spent... 4% below the average for comparable countries. Meanwhile every principal in the country is having difficulty hiring. The spending wasn't too high. The budget was too low.

Ireland spends less on education than OECD average, new data shows
The report also found the number of primary teachers in Ireland increased by 27 per cent over the last seven years, which is much higher than the OECD average

Spent the last few months enjoying the Marvel movies with my son, leading up to him seeing ENDGAME tonight on the big screen! I doubt the audience will be as *electric* as when I saw it the first time round, but I'm hoping some of the big moments still hit the same for him.

Just to say what complete scumbags the FAI and Micheál Martin are for putting Irish players in this position.
Tweet from Daniel Lambert, September 26th: Hearing from several sources around Ireland hotel that agents are telling players you must play our you'll never play for a US owned team in the UK.

How grim and predictable from faceless agents who profit in the background.

Yesterday I demanded answers from the Minister about the Irish Government position on shocking proposals to give AI companies access to our personal data which are being negotiated right now on Ireland's watch. The public across EU want rights protected & more regulation of AI and big tech not less!

My entire life I've heard centrists scolding leftist candidates with "oh, but how will we pay for all that? isn't your agenda unreasonable? shouldn't we run on a modest proposal for means-tested tax rebates?" Then Mamdani gets elected and makes it all look pretty easy. No wonder they hate him.

A key point: you do need a theory of communication, alongside a theory of politics, to be an effective operator I think the centre and left struggle, generally, with "playing the game" - it's not enough to just have policy prescriptions you think will work
