Climate change, even natural climate change, has been the bane of civilizations before. The Bronze Age collapse was one of the dramatic ones, and extreme drought events might have been at the center of it all.🧪 Link: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.…
Schematic illustrating how the long-term drying of the Eastern Mediterranean was part of a hemispheric-scale hydroclimate adjustment to declining Holocene summer insolation.
Progressive weakening of major Northern Hemisphere monsoon systems, including the WAM and a southward contraction of the ITCZ, led to a diminished northward moisture transport from tropical Africa and a decline in continental runoff, reducing freshwater delivery to the Mediterranean. A northward shift of the winter storm track also reduced precipitation into the area.

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers. This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.
A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

Event study coefficients that show that men's earnings rise more than women's among couples following a cross-commuting zone move (left panels). The pattern is muted or reverses among single men and single women (right panels).
