“What data might be out of date? All of it!”: web archivist perspectives on datasheets for datasets
Purpose. Web archive collections provide snapshots of archived websites, and recent work in the field aims to support analyses of these collections as data. However, web archives as a field has no existing standardized approach to documentation of data context to support analysis and interpretation. This study sheds light on what practitioners and researchers identify as the most important information for such documentation to include.Design/methodology/approach. This article reports on one phase of a larger study investigating the utility of applying “datasheets for datasets” documentation to web archives. The first phase included a workshop introducing participants to the datasheets framework and asking them to prioritize the documentation elements it describes. The interviews analyzed here were conducted with select respondents who participated in the workshops. Interview transcripts were then studied through thematic analysis.Findings. Web archive datasets are revealed to have complex relationships with both web archive collections and the live web from which they are ultimately derived. Respondents identified challenges for documentation to trace the proliferation of changes across these different contexts as well as tensions between labor and scale necessitating trade-offs in the granularity of description.Originality/value. Little existing work addresses systematic approaches to documenting web archive datasets informed by consultation with stakeholders. Broadly, this article also contributes to discussion of what is required for transparent and ethical documentation of datasets collected from the web, such as machine learning data for which datasheets are designed.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

A mock-up of an open book- on one side there is light mint/robin's egg blue background and the text "The House Archives Built, Revisited" with smaller text in a typerwriterish font. On the other side there is a sepia photo from the 1870's of a Black man standing on a porch with his hands on a chair and his legs crossed in a jaunt manner.

lil psa for those who use chrome on their computer and have been driven crazy by the constant "sign in with google" prompts that pop up at various sites and didn't realize they could disable them and have been suffering in silence until now like i've been: here's how to get rid of them
To select your third-party sign-in prompt preferences:

On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, select More More and then Settings.
On the left, select Privacy and security and then Site settings.
Under “Content,” select Additional content settings and then Third-party sign-in.
Select to show or block sign-in prompts:
Sites can show sign-in prompts from identity services: If you enable "Sign in automatically," you won’t need to confirm before you log in to a website with your identity service. Learn how to sign in to sites & apps automatically.
Block sign-in prompts from identity services: If you block this feature, Chrome won’t show sign-in prompts through your identity service. The website you visit or your identity service can still show you similar prompts. You can still log in with your identity service through the typical sign-in buttons or your username and password.
