The NYT's Moldova photo essay called an elected official "a teacher," styled a fashion designer and a film student to look like Soviet factory workers, and opened with "gray" to describe the sunniest month Chisinau had all year. open.substack.com/pub/moldovam...

For now, I can fill my time with small tasks (getting through all the hoops of 2FA and endless computer updates for one). But later today and tomorrow, I do have to grapple with the bigger question: what’s next?

Being “back” means trying to figure out who I am now as a researcher, teacher, and professional, and as a person, while acknowledging the existential shift of this year.

Today marks my first day “back” in the office after a year of maternity leave. There is no picking up “back” where I left off. There is no catching up – a good takeaway from so many broken nights. There is only moving forward and grappling with working within a parent’s schedule.

How Cases Speak to One Another: Using Translation to Rethink Generalization in Political Science Research
By Erica S. Simmons, University of Wisconsin—Madison, and Nicholas Rush Smith, City University of New York—City College and the Graduate Center and University of Johannesburg Regardless of method, political scientists often seek to develop arguments that can be generalized to a population of cases. But is this the only way to think about how cases speak to one another?

My one wish for a first mother’s day: that mothers get treated how they do today on the other 364 days of the year. Or, that one day does not make up for the 364 days of unequal labour.
