When you break it down and really think through how people come to believe what they believe, the other missing components of the Democratic persuasion machine become more obvious, and they’re probably the most important pieces. www.offmessage.net/p/democrats-...

Think about common scenarios where persuasion happens.
• Once every couple years, it happens stranger to stranger, on the front steps of homes in closely contested territory.
• It happens on a rolling basis between citizens and politicians, who speak to them in ads, speeches, press conferences, town hall events, and so forth.
• On a much more frequent basis it happens between familiars-siblings, spouses, friends, and coworkers-usually when one party has stronger feelings about an issue than another.
• It happens near-constantly between influencer and influencee, thanks to a profusion of charismatic voices echoing across the country. Any one of these voices is now fairly likely to break the silence when a person feels under-stimulated and decides to check their phone, log on to their computer, or turn on their television.

What the party's missing more than anything is creative thinking about how to reach people who will never answer a telephone call from a number they don't recognize, never answer the door for a canvasser, and never form lasting political beliefs by watching or reading professional news (which they rarely or never do).
Democrats thus need leaders who are willing to adapt to this fact, or else they need new leaders.
