It's not that guys who don't rape are heroes -- that's the bare minimum, and it's depressing that we feel the need to applaud it -- it's that (straight) men perform sexual aggression and dominance toward women mostly to impress other men, and if they're not getting the approval they need, they stop

Cannot say this enough: If a woman calls out rape culture, she's being "too sensitive" or a prude or she can't take a joke. If another guy looks you in the face and tells you that you're being a fucking freak, guys actually listen, which means giving your bud a pass is the worst thing you can do.

I think there are a lot more Israelis like this than we know or ever hear about in the media, those who didn't respond to the horror and tragedy of October 7 with murderous vengeance. Those doing the almost impossible task of continuing to push for solidarity. Maybe let's uplift their voices today.

Something ppl need to realize is that almost everyone in Israel--and a good chunk of Jews outside of Israel--knew someone who was seriously hurt or killed by Hamas during the Oct 7 Massacre. It's like if 9/11 killed multiple orders of magnitude more people per capita.

"Like a rotten fish, the flight of California’s elected Democrats from Prop 40 (tax on billionaires) stinks from the head: in this case, Gov. Gavin Newsom, whose political career has long been boosted by Silicon Valley fortunes." prospect.org/2026/10/06/c...
"Like a rotten fish, the flight of California’s elected Democrats from Prop 40 stinks from the head: in this case, Gov. Gavin Newsom, whose political career has long been boosted by Silicon Valley fortunes. Newsom’s reluctance to rile his past, present, and (he hopes) future funders seems to have trickled down to the ranks of the elected. His certain successor as governor, Xavier Becerra, has joined Newsom in opposition, as has Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. The mayor’s challenger in the upcoming midterm election, L.A. city council member Nithya Raman—an ostensible socialist who is a member of DSA, which has backed her candidacy—has taken no position on the measure. This puts her to the right of actual capitalist Tom Steyer, the billionaire progressive who sought the governorship in the state’s June primary.

Despite the measure’s heavy support from rank-and-file Democrats, the only other elected Democrat of note to back Prop 40 is Rep. Judy Chu, who represents L.A.’s San Gabriel Valley in Congress. Subtracting Chu and Khanna from the quavering pack, that leaves 41 California Democratic members of Congress who’ve either opposed the measure or have remained mum on the subject. (Well, I suppose, 40—the redoubtable Maxine Waters has made pro-40 comments, but has not issued an endorsement per se.)"

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

A lot of us are talking about Jane Doe, but no one is talking about the horrendous way Kendall Francis was treated By LSU. Here's what happened to her after she was raped by a football player last fall. www.espn.com/college-foot...
In July, the school found Shanklin responsible for "forcible rape" and issued a one-year suspension, which is a full ban from campus and activities, according to documents reviewed by ESPN. After Shanklin appealed, an administrative law judge who handles appeals per LSU policy upheld the finding that the athlete was responsible for "forcible rape," but reduced the punishment to four semesters of probation with no restrictions, which allows Shanklin to remain enrolled and on campus and to participate in activities as long as he stays out of trouble.

Everything is getting more expensive, but if you want something to exist, you have to spend money, recommend it to others, and say a prayer if/when private equity buys it. Restaurants, indie ice cream shops, movies, news outlets, clothing, art, music, live comedy, food banks, mutual aid orgs, etc.

The most common outcome of a report to Title IX is that nothing happens. That’s by design. According to school policies (and now, Trump’s 2020 federal regulation), a report is just a way for schools to receive information about violence. It does not require any action from the school.

I’ve gotten a lot of questions from journalists like, “If my son were in that group chat, I’d want him to say something. How can I teach him to speak up?” The question should be: “How do I raise a son who would never rush a fraternity?”

We need men to keep this issue relevant - and we need you to talk to each other and especially your sons about it. It hits different coming from dad than from mom. And it hits different from a male buddy rather than a guy’s wife. If it’s a taboo topic, rape culture can/will perpetuate itself
