I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

These photos of cockatiels in flight at Gluepot are overexposed so technically not great (don't argue with me - I know what I'm talking about 🙂) but worth sharing to show their joie de vivre. I love the flared tail on that one parrot 😀

9 times out of 10, I can sit quietly and patiently while dealing with heat and dust and flies - and get nothing. Then, on that 10th time, the universe will gift me a moment like this. Two cockatiels landed right in front of me at Gluepot - right in the spot I was hoping they would land. A miracle!

People should be able to tell the difference between "Good Books" and "Fun Reads". There are many books that are objectively NOT Good Books, but they're Fun Reads, and there are many books that are NOT Fun Reads, but are very Good Books They're not mutually exclusive, but they're different criteria

Here's the serious bit for anyone who'd rather skip the 4000 words of jokes
Because the truth is, tech doesn't have an image problem. It doesn't have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What's wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn't successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What's wrong is that he's trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that's designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn't that you haven't told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them. (
There are things in the world that are more important than money. The fact that you seem not to believe this, that you seem to think any motive beyond ruthless acquisitiveness is fake, dishonest, or childish, is the heart of your problem. Your attitude is not by any means unique to tech, but the

For decades we've been told that Americans "want" giant trucks and SUVs (that just happen to have huge margins and skirt old emissions/mileage standards). Would be interesting if our government allowed foreign carmakers to sell well-made inexpensive EV sedans to see what the market actually wants.

On this #WorldWildlifeDay I’m reflecting on how fortunate I’ve been to encounter so much diverse wildlife. There is so much magic in our environment that needs protecting.
A portrait of an adult female grizzly bear mom, standing up being a rock and looking back towards the camera. She had distinctive reddish fur on her face and ears. A long-tailed weasel standing attentively in short green grass. It is a small mustelid with a long body, light brown belly and dark brow and white patterned face. Its long, black-tipped tail is visible in the background. A pair of fledgling great horned owls sitting side by side on a tree. The owl on the right is facing away from the camera, reaching back over its shoulder to preen its feather. It’s sibling sitting by its side with one of its feathers in its bill and its claw raised grabbing out for it. A bobcat sitting in tall green and brown grass, letting out a yawn with its head back, eyes closed, and mouth wide open.
