In the 90s there was a trend for game main menus that were real objects. Click on the door to Start Mission. Click on the radio to enter Audio Options. Click on the TV for video settings. I feel like it died a death because it was bad UX? Can anyone give me any particularly egregious examples, pls?

This isn't like that, because Barbie and Oppenheimer were two huge Hollywood projects, each with multi-million marketing campaigns behind them. This is more like uploading a good TikTok video at the same time as Barbie/ Oppenheimer came out and claiming you're at the premiere. Game looks fab tho

Okay, that's credits on Zero Company. It's not XCOM, it is its own thing and brilliant fun with it. Also though, one of those games where the tight budget constraints really show through, wish it had a bit more cash thrown at it. Still, highly recommended, a great time.

I hate to say 'gritty reboot' but I've always felt that a sci fi show about a time traveller should be much more appealing than Dr Who actually is, and that it should be written for 40 year olds but accessible to children, rather than being written for children and accessible to 40 year olds.

Stop being scared of gamers, imo. One of the best things about XCOM is the understanding that you can be half way through and just... fail. Game over. Start again. It's thrilling! Give people new things. Challenge them. Stop being soft, it's turning games to homogenised mush.
