If you're wondering why so many comics people are po'd about the Publishers Weekly PR stunt for an "AI" "graphic novel publisher" is because the whole piece is an insult to the hard work people do to make comics. No element can just be outsourced to a machine and then traced and not look like crap.

I thought the snot bubble moved from Japanese animation (where it appears in the 1930s) to Japanese comics pretty late, but I came across it in this series from 1952, so it's been part of the manga repertoire at least since then. (Also saw it in a different serial from 1953.)

In one week in Japan I've already seen multiple TV segments on Foreigners Causing Problems, despite not having witnessed anything of the sort in person, but zero TV segments on the actually witnessed issue of rich people illegally parking their giant SUVs or driving them through pedestrian areas
