Spent the day researching and writing about Wilford “Captain Billy” Fawcett and Captain Billy’s Whiz Bang in 1919, which funded the Fawcett magazine empire in the 1920s/30s, which in turn funded Fawcett’s start in comics in 1940. #marvelman

Published very late last night, here's my essay on the Star Wars YA novel QUEEN'S SHADOW, the first in a trilogy about Padmé that attempts to rescue her from her terrible treatment in the prequel films and, though a bit thin, gives some smart critiques of the institutional capture of democracy.

The new THE CROW movie, filmed in Czechia and Germany, is very excited to situate the movie using intersection signs from Chicago and then Detroit, which the director presumably thinks are the same place? A truly bizarre adaptation that in some ways captures the comic better than the 1994 film.
