between 15,000 and 20,000 jobs in UK universities are actively at risk of being cut, on top of the tens of thousands already lost. 50% of UK universities are actively cutting staff. Solidarity with anyone losing their job at the altar of corporate greed, but "some jobs are real jobs" indeed.

For years, sector employers, represented represented by the Universities & Colleges Employers Association (UCEA), had already laid the ground for such an escalation: during national negotiations, they repeatedly claimed that casualisation, workload and equality could not be resolved at the institutional level. As the financial crisis deepened, senior managers and UCEA itself went further, arguing that the underlying funding model was unlikely to change and that redundancies were therefore unavoidable. In other words, these issues could not be resolved by institutions themselves, with meaningful progress instead ultimately requiring state intervention.

Staff at my university (Glasgow Caledonian) are going on strike. I support them and all unions. At the same time, as an international student on a postgrad program, I'm scared. Student visas are neither cheap nor forgiving. If this delays my degree, what happens to me?

Universities Scotland and Universities UK allow their member universities to break employment time and time again. Solidarity to colleagues at Edinburgh University who should take union reps with them in to those meetings. We have seen what happens when they are not allowed to join.

What will the Scottish Ministers and Scottish Parliament do about the failures Dundee UCU have identified of the SFC in its role to ensure HE funds are appropriately administered by the University of Dundee? The SFC is legally accountable to the Ministers and Parliament for its actions.

No surprise. The current COO’s previous workplace did not stop volunteers carrying controlled drugs. Nigel Seaton and UEG have not listened to staff about their concerns about risks to the University. Compliance with the law is a task now assigned across UEG members with no legal background.

The University of Dundee is failing to comply with information governance law. This is due to a reduction of staffing in the team responsible. Staff reached zero in 2026. Compliance issues will become more and more regular if the current redundancies are approved by Court. Say no to redundancies.
