We are delighted to welcome Dr Ryan McNeil, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Harm Reduction Research at Yale School of Medicine, who will speak on “Slow violence and North America’s overdose crisis.”
Dr McNeil’s research examines how social, structural, and environmental forces shape risk and harm among people who use drugs. His work focuses on harm reduction, addiction treatment, supervised consumption services, housing and overdose prevention, and approaches to managing stimulant use disorders. His research has informed policy and practice as harm reduction interventions, including supervised consumption services and safe supply, have expanded.
The seminar is in person only and no registration is required.

Starting a new academic year while being pooled for #redundancy is a strange and painful thing. UK higher education is in a terrible place at the moment. Like so many of my colleagues at the University of Nottingham, I’m facing the possibility of losing the career I’ve spent years building 🙃

I did my bachelor's in Human Geography at Leicester. Best choice I ever made, genuinely some of the best years of my life! We were on the picket lines with staff then, full support to them now. A lot of my favourite people have left since I graduated due to the state of academia, now more at risk.

While reactionaries may use women's rights to attack other minorities (Muslim communities, trans people, immigrants etc), you really don't have to scratch the surface much to realise that they are not attached to said rights, but to the exclusion of others (including women)
