We are so, so fortunate to live in the world Dolly touched - to have benefited from so much magnificent music and activism and acting and philanthropy and liberation and JOY. I'm very sad right now but mostly profoundly grateful.

Today is the day on which Ray Bradbury's “There Will Come Soft Rains” (pub'd 1950) takes place. It’s a short elegaic story about a smart home slowly dying after its owners are wiped out in a nuclear extinction event. Re-reading it now, I’m feeling softly sucker-punched by what it has to offer us.

They should make a horror movie about what happens when you cut the tag off your mattress like there's a demon made of springs and wireframe and fibers it wants to know your SLEEP NUMBER if it learns your SLEEP NUMBER it will own your soul

Superheroes are 100% about preserving the status quo. They can't kill the villains, because the villains couldn't then come back to sell more issues and toys. X-Men had a communist utopia a couple years ago, but Marvel killed it to synergize the roll out of the X-Men in the MCU films and shows.

Pink background. The Golden Age Wonder Woman is talking to another woman who is equally beautiful, her skin yellowish. The panel is from All-Star All-Star Squadron. Wonder Woman asks, “How can I help you?“
“It’s our MEN. They are WINGLESS – – and so they OBEY us women, for if they did not, we would fly away, and they could not follow.”
Wonder Woman asks, “So what’s your problem?“

I used to write the WaPo editorials on US-Africa policy, as well on as human rights and politics on the continent. To describe hundreds of thousands of deaths on the continent as “messy” is an absolute abomination.

Turns out EYES WIDE SHUT (1999) is a true story. Not idle speculation or merely Kubrickian paranoia. That movie is about the catastrophic damage that happens when one merely 'brushes up against' the powerful. It's a terrible and ugly truth and we must face it collectively and courageously.

Top Republicans are reportedly complaining that if the American people demand the resignation of everyone who involved in covering up the Epstein files, the Trump regime would have about 3 people left.

U.K. might lose a prime minister because a guy who worked for him knew another guy who hung out with Epstein. Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.

In case it's unclear: Trump's Board of Peace is an autocratic takeover of the world. He'll wield "peace" like a cudgel--'that's a nice country you've got there, I'd hate to see something happen to it.' Any country that signs has pledged its fealty to a madman crime boss.

I'm listening to "Jane Austen's Bookshelf" by Rebecca Romney, and there's an idea she's references I find so fascinating: women in books from the 17- & 1800s were always fainting because that was the only way to safely tell a man "no."

The media needs to stop writing headlines like “The CDC changes course on vaccines and autism” and “The CDC defends measles response”. NONE of this is coming from legitimate scientists at the CDC. ALL of it is coming from RFK Jr. Every such headline is causing further harm to public health.

One of two things is true: 1. Chuck Schumer genuinely felt this is a bad deal, so he voted against it, but he couldn't keep Senate Dems in line because he's a lackluster leader. OR 2. Chuck Schumer orchestrated the shutdown deal w/ retiring Dems because he's a bad strategist and got rattled.
