🚨🎥🍿 Preprint alert! We hypothesized that similar to neutrophils, γδ IELs use a CD47-mediated mechanism to navigate migration within the epithelium. In work from @ananya-p.bsky.social's Master's thesis, we show that CD47 and CD18 independently modulate γδ IEL surveillance behavior.

While there remains a lot to be learned about the respective roles for #gd17 and #gdIFN LPLs in intestinal inflammation, we explain why it's important not to lump all #gdTcells together. There's a learning curve to working with #unconventionalTcells, but the tools and knowledge exist 4/n

In this scenario, we don't know if the effect of the microbiota alters the gd IEL compartment, which are IFNg-producing and largely protective in IBD, or alternatively, if commensals regulate IL-17- and/or IFNg-producing gd LPLs. 3/n

This is particularly important to consider when investigating the role of the microbiota in #IBD. Historically, a gdTcell-deficient mice have been used in experimental colitis models to show that commensals have an effect on #gdTcells and vice versa. 2/n
