Remember the early CD era of gaming, when devs suddenly had an extra 500MB of space they didn’t know what to do with after being used to floppy installation, so every game was basically 40MB of game + a whole audio CD’s worth of *banger* soundtrack?

“Bear witness,” in the biblical sense, means to truthfully tell what you saw. Staring at snuff films isn’t bearing witness. Fact is, you poison your brain with enough of that, I wonder if it will still be clear enough to bear true witness to anything else.

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

The anti-government ideologue's "I don't like democracy because I don't like government having power over me" always does seem to elide right over the question "if there's no democracy, who do you think is going to wield power?" The answer ain't "nobody", and it's definitely not "you."

E.B. White established this in 1949! Move on already!
Screenshot from E.B. White's essay "Here is New York": "There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born here, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter —the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Of these three trembling cities the greatest is the last— the city of final destination, the city that is a goal. It is this third city that accounts for New York's high-strung disposition, its poetical deportment, its dedication to the arts, and its incomparable achievements. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness; natives give it solidity and continuity; but the settlers give it passion."

From Richard Jones (h/t to @johnlk.bsky.social for sharing it in Discord)
It's easy to think that Batman is a darker story than Spider Man if you mistake tone for content and colour scheme for narrative. It really isn't.
Bruce Wayne witnessed a tragedy for which he was not responsible and became Batman, a healing. Peter Parker witnessed a tragedy for which he was responsible and became Spider-Man, an open wound.
Being Batman is either good for Bruce or as good as it gets for Bruce.
Being Spider-Man is not good for Peter, a man who is emotionally unsuited to being a superhero in just about every way but who has got it into his head that people will die if he isn't one. Spider-Man is not okay. Spider-Man is a character who's quipping constantly to push the panic down, whose tagline was once "New York's Neurotic Super-Hero!" and whose signature power is literally weaponised anxiety.
Being Batman is Bruce's gift to himself. Being Spider-Man is Peter's gift to the world. Being Spider-Man is not good for Peter. One of the things DeFalco has said the MC2 is there t
