The Walkout
As it was foretold, members of the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) held a one-hour stoppage on Maynooth University campus today to mark World Teachers’ Day. The turnout was very good, helped by the reasonably nice weather. As well as speeches from members of IFUT, there were also contributions from the other Unions, Unite and Siptu as well as the Postgraduate Workers' Organisation; the latter is not an officially-recognised trade union, but supports the dispute.

Members @ifut.bsky.social staged a 1-hour walkout today at Maynooth as part of the Irish public sector pay dispute. Grateful also to the Postgraduate Workers' Organisation for their support. Solidarity with our colleagues in other unions who have begun working to contract. Power to the people! ✊️

I do have great ideas about how to make the Seanad more democratic, but I'm fairly sure no one will ever implement them

It's not perfect but (1) the non-geographical aspect of the representation is a good idea (2) that the university seats are the most democratic part of our Seanad (more so after the recent reform) and (3) the University senators are actually pretty effective.
