Nothing warms the cockles quite like hearing a bunch of gacked up bucket headed bellends are crying on the hellsite that their £500 Oasis tickets shot up to £1,500 at the checkout. The Gallaghers are simply not worth the contempt they hold you all in.

They're not an army. They're refugees not migrants. Most come from places we've abandoned (eg. Afghanistan) No safe route like Ukraine hence boats Almost all are found to be legit. Labour not resp for Tories slashing armed forces. OTHER THAN THAT GREAT JOURNALISM

One of the main reasons academia has so few black people (more likely to be working class) at the top is the same reason why academia has so few white working class people: money The amount of money, and financial risk, you have to be willing to take to get to PhD or professor level is immense

Jason Arday resigned from Jesus and the education faculty and asked people to stop nine days ago in his resignation letter That should have been the end of it, but instead it became a blood sport for the press and monetised social media alike - the money was too good, the attention too valuable

3/3 The scale of the attention Arday received was not reflected in the story, or what he may or may it have done Anyone trying to pretend otherwise is being intellectually dishonest and probably has their own sinister motives for doing so - or are attempting to assuage their own guilt

2/3 I found the attention excessive and corrosive, and was concerned one unusual story was being used to demonise the existence of black people in high places in academia Despite the fact that data, including research I did while at Cam, shows black people face an uphill struggle in academia

1/3 I am black, autistic, studied modules at the education faculty at Cambridge & was a student at Jesus College. If anyone should have been interested in the Arday story, it should have been someone like me - right? After all, he could have been my supervisor if I’d been a bit younger. Instead…

worth saying this isn't just a British press problem, for some reason Arday was also written about extensively in mainstream national publications in the US and in France, among others, we really do have an entirely fucked up global media ecosystem

From this review- “Think of all the diligent, decent black academics who have been lumbered with the embarrassment of having Arday as a figurehead” - no, think of *why* black academics are held collectively responsible in ways that white academics are not

I wish media outlets would describe Nathan Cofnas as a racist rather than a "self-defined race realist" which doesn't mean anything to most people. His writing meets any definition of racism however narrowly and cautiously drawn.

Indeed. SS embodies the whole sorry mess, in that hardly anyone in it ever saw Arday as a person. For Cambridge he was a way to buff their credentials, to be discarded when he became embarrassing. For Sodha he was a prop to air grievances about “gender ideology”.

We need another word for the rancid collective that we call ‘the British press’ - the nexus including ‘journalists’, commentators, think tankers, politicians, everyone that makes up this group that sets the British agenda. Rod Liddle was its embodiment. They brought us Brexit, Diana, & now this.

There is a difference between scrutiny and entertainment. Jason Arday’s career posed questions, but they shouldn’t have become obsessional. Journalism should seek truth, but not public humiliation.

OMG 😱 did you hear how bad socialism is? It’s so bad that it feeds the poor, takes care of the sick, makes our streets safer, life less stressful +more affordable and costs the majority little and the Uber wealthy only their fair share in taxes that they have gotten away with not paying for decades!

Happy 100th, Mel Brooks.
The Woman yelling at a cat meme, but the woman is now Gene Wilder's Dr Frankenstein ("Fronkensteen!"), his friend is Terri Garr's Inga, and the cat is now Igor ("Eye-gor!"), who is sitting behind the table with a big smile on his face. The table in front of him is taken up by a large glass jar with a brain in it. The label on the jar reads: "DO NOT USE THIS BRAIN! ABNORMAL". For the sake of argument, the massive hand resting on the chair behind him belongs to Peter Boyle's Monster. Although Mel Brooks does not personally appear in this image, it would not exist without him.
