Trust trans people + what they tell you
From our interviews, we found trans activists had savvy and complex understandings of how they could use data to serve their activist needs, retain their political commitments, prioritize care and support, and uplift trans communities. We call this approach trans data:
Trans data is about materially approving trans lives
Trans data crosses boundaries
Trans data requires power analysis
We hope these principles can be used to help build new data collection, analysis, and communication systems that serve trans liberation and help reorient researchers to the deep political commitments of data for and about trans people.

as a historian of crime, things i wish were more mainstream about “crime is down but concerns about crime are up” 1.crime rates are irredeemably inaccurate. argue all you like about this/that but statistics have always had more to do with policing and reporting than any underlying “crime rate” 🗃️

I wrote a multi-page rhyming couplet poem about how Santa Claus is a fascist and the reindeer & elves were due for an Attica-style uprising to assert their rights and work for freedom. I gave it to my mother as an xmas present.

Researcher friends: Has "transgender" always been a restricted search category on factiva? I'm (up too late) gathering cites for the anti-trans dorm ruling in Utah and any search I run with the word "transgender" is returning "no results" even when I know that's wrong.

Something i can't get over is how often we read "too much focus on identity politics, not enough focus on the working class" as if you can't have a Politicized Identity and also be working class.
