e.g. Hobart just had a majority progressive council for the first time. They pursued a bunch of things the state gov won't touch like short stay, active transport, land returns, etc. Who was pushing (& opposing) that agenda & what will happen if that progressive majority is lost?

The coverage seems to be (1) "councillors are mean to each other" (2) "social media is toxic" & (3) "this candidate is running and says some combo of (1) & (2)". Zero investigative reporting on what councils have actually been doing re housing, transport, public amenities, recreation...

A perfect example is the focus on Shoebridge saying the Greens are going to replace Labor. That's a line lots of Greens MPs have been running for months (e.g. it's clearly a part of the Victorian Greens state election messaging), but it only gets attention now because of the leadership change.
