Here’s the thing about Tressie leaving. I’m sure a lot of people who follow me have been annoyed about my regular complaints about what feels like a unique type of reply guy and self righteous antagonism on here. But the reason I point it out is to try to get users and the Bsky team to intervene.

Would it help if we described the hypothetical to the Court as "the president could order Seal Team 6 to assassinate members of the Supreme Court so that he could fill their seats with new appointments"? (And don't say "they'd impeach him" when he could also order hits on members of Congress.)

They charged this Emory professor with battery for asking an officer “what are you doing?” when they were brutalizing a student protester. Just viciously threw her on the ground and then charged *her* with a crime.

The new policy that Indiana University used to justify snipers, arresting students and faculty, and banning those arrested from campus for a year, was enacted *one day* before yesterday's protests began. It wasn't even posted online until yesterday morning. www.idsnews.com/article/2024...

I agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s abundantly apparent that Elon's motives for buying Twitter go much further than his need for attention, whether positive or negative. His partners want nothing more than to see democracy destroyed here. His relationship with Putin is another factor.

Amazon has long cultivated the idea that it runs its shopping platform on tiny margins, relying instead on AWS for its profits. This is widely reported. It's also not true. Amazon’s marketplace is hugely profitable. I have a new piece in The Atlantic on how Amazon has kept these profits secret.

Amazon’s Big Secret

Nearly 30 years after the company was founded, we still don’t really know where its profits come from. The answer will loom large in the antitrust case against it.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of forms of regulation of recreational sex and birth control would/will be largely broken-taillight-type laws. By which I mean when you create a law you can’t possibly really enforce, it’s just a blanket power to selectively harass people you don’t like.
