Yesterday the Department of Homeland Security under Trump served up straight racism and cruelty to its wavering base in a post about Haitians. About 350,000 Haitians came to the United States after a catastrophic earthquake hit their country in 2010, destabilizing both the economy and the government. As the country became overrun with violent gangs, the U.S. granted Haitians Temporary Protected Status, allowing them to stay in the U.S. because it was too dangerous to go home.

My kid made the varsity soccer team today. And while I am proud of him, we are not crazy sports parents. He plays because he likes it. But what I realize is that there aren’t that many soccer games if his left to see. Going to his games is one of my favorite things in the world.

I find it fascinating that of all motor sports, it’s drag racing that has a large number of women drivers at the top of the sport. Like you can name 4 or 5 women in the top 15 or so drivers in every class. No other motor sport has any women at all anywhere near the top and never have.
