One of my favorite things: The way we meet people online or at events and carry on a relationship by sending each other jokes, memes, photos, posts. It feels so special when a far away friend sees something and thinks specifically of me and reaches out. I was a lonely kid, and this gives me life.

Write a statement as a lab. Have your students sign it too. Science is eroding, public science ed. worst of all. If we shrug our shoulders & say “bummer”, nothing will improve. I know you’re tired. The slog of misery is exhausting. But I’m begging you to use your voice for the people of my city.

I cannot overemphasize that this is a fight we can win, but we need as many voices as possible here. The kids of Philly cannot afford to lose our flagship biodiversity museum. The Philly school district closed 17 schools this year. We need to turn this around for our kids and the culture of Philly.

@crawlieswithcri.bsky.social For you, from a burrow beneath the birdfeeders at Manasquan Reservoir in NJ.
A burrow surrounded by dry dead grasses. A furry face peeks out of the burrow. It has black button eyes, very short ears, a small nose and pale whiskers. It is a vole. The fur is dull brown. From this vantage point, it looks very round.

Day 2. Urn. #31DaysofGraves Gravelly Graveyard or Old Woolley Cemetery, Brick Twp., NJ. William S. Johnson died 1863.
A tombstone broken into two pieces lies embedded in the ground. The ground is covered with dead winter grass. The top part of the stone has a carving of a weeping willow over an urn. The carving on the gray gravestone is very worn and the recesses are almost black. The urn is barely visible. The second piece of the stone has lettering: "DIED Jan 1963" and an illegible statement of age at death in years, months, and days.

🪶 Buff-breasted Sandpipers are on the move from their Arctic breeding grounds back to South America. They've been spotted this month across the Great Plains and eastern US. Go Sandpipers! Go!
Photo of two Buff-breasted Sandpipers by Richard Gibbons, the male is displaying to the female. A comic speech bubble conversation reads as follows. Male: "Hey girl, get a load of this BUFF breast! Know why my muscles are so defined? It's because I'm an elite long distance migrant. I fly 15,000 miles between Nunavut & Uruguay 2x per year!" Female: "Big deal Chad, so do I! In fact you were drafting behind me all last night and wouldn't stop yapping to your buddies about how much easier it was to fly in my wake." Male: "That just shows I'm intelligent." Female: "Whatever Chad."
