When you think of money as "other people's labor", which it basically is, a lot of social institutions become very strange. For example, did you know that you can inherit millions of hours of other people's labor? Why.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Honestly? This might sound like crank nonsense but I think a large part of why we're in this mess is we're all too willing to discuss issues without mentioning solutions. It's why I never simply say "people cannot charge at apartments" - that's a political reality, not a practical one.

This is really, REALLY bad. I think the simple way to think about how this can affect the brain is by thinking of prions. They won't crystalize more of your brain into plastic, but if they continue to account for a greater mass in the brain, they can physically interfere in much the same way. BAD

I guess I should share some of my art. I primarily work in ceramics and make pipes but I'm always looking to grow! I'm bad at self promotion but I'll put some details and links below. Happy to join the Bluesky #ceramics community!
A sales display of compact ceramic smoking pipes with small vanes running down their sides. The pipes are glazed in a wide variety of contrasting colors. There's a sale sign in front of them and they are displayed on wooden risers on top of a colorful tablecloth.Three sculpted smoking pipes in a row. They are carved to resemble, from left to right, a cactus, a purple man with red eyes and blue lips, and the trunk of a red oak. They have wide mouths to accept ice cubes and sockets to accept slides/smoking bowls. Behind them sits a small sculpture of a swamp creature emerging from the water.A hand warmer mug. The handle is shaped and painted like a clam shell. The mug is painted as a beach vista, with the bottom third as the beach, the middle third as ocean, and the top third as sky with cumulus clouds.A sculpted smoking pipe in the shape of a carnivorous dinosaur with a cartoonishly long mouth full of teeth. The scales are carved into the skin and painted greenish grey with terracotta red showing through between. It has bloodshot yellow eyes and yellow toenails. The mouth of the pipe is wide to accept ice cubes; it sits about six inches tall and four inches front to back.

I actually think this is a good idea. In many ways, the limited healthcare guarantees we HAVE happened because of pressure from unions. There's no denying a movement like this would create a lot of legislation and fervor in response. It's not universal healthcare, but it could LEAD to it.
