Remember a lot of people speculated that the 2024 election signaled a new era in both politics and American society more generally. We were told to submit to the “new reality” it represented. I have never been morally bankrupt enough to do it, because this ghoulish violence was always at the core.

Bit more niche but also you don't need to be sworn in by the speaker *at all* after an election. You do if you are elected mid-session (by house rules) but immediately after the election you are sworn by the speaker elect by convention, not by requirement

The Iran war is not unpopular solely because of gas prices. Sure that's part of it. But it was unpopular from the start because Americans genuinely are viscerally repulsed by the idea of yet another goddamned war in the middle east. Iraq and Afghanistan are generationally embedded scars.
