This is a very interesting new resource, The Register of British Slave-Traders. 'The Register focusses on the individuals who sought to profit from the enslavement of over 3 million African men, women, and children, whose identity was – for the most part – erased from the historical record.' 🗃️

The Register of British Slave-traders compiles and presents information on all known slave-traders in Britain who invested in the trafficking of captive Africans from 1563 to 1807.

Always had Sheeran down as a gifted songwriter who is trying real hard to keep his public persona apolitical - but this isn't neutrality. It's a political stance as unequivocal as Macklemore's, except Ed doesn't appear to have the guts to articulate it out loud.

Think about Miss Piggy. She lost a best friend and now an ex-lover in matter of 24 hours.
Miss Piggy and Dolly Parton in fancy dresses posing together photo of Tim Curry surrounded by muppets, smiling for a photo. A quote from curry is added “it didn’t go very well. It didn’t survive the shoot. She felt I wasn’t being faithful to her” it’s him discussing his ill fated affair with miss piggy

Instagram post from the official Muppets account: Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer he was unparalleled - witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim.

This is it. If Burnham’s Labour doesn’t stop the ongoing assault on migrants/asylum seekers/refugees and trans people, the far right will not be defeated. Keeping Mahmood is insulting.

Listen, I agree there’s loads of good signs re Burnham, but taking a firm pro-immigration stance should be a basic requirement for an ostensibly progressive politician. And sorry for being biased here as an immigrant myself. Mahmood made me want to leave the UK and keeping her is incredibly hurtful.

Worth adding some numbers to this. The British press decided to make trans rights into an issue. It just wasn’t an issue before. This was a top-down decision. shado-mag.com/articles/opi...
Two striking statistics come to mind.
The first is how the British media decided to obsess over trans people. This is very clear.
Between 2012 and 2022 alone, trans-related articles went from just 60 to over 7,500. By 2022, there were at least 125 times more articles on trans people than in 2012. This has facilitated the rise of a far right narrative vis-a-vis "gender ideology" which is talked about in civilisational terms: In effect, trans people are being portrayed not as individuals but as the products of an ideology that threatens the dominance of 'man' and perceived traditional gender roles.
Fast forward just three years and we see the Daily Mail actively investigate whether any of Tyler Robinson's neighbours or roommates were trans, which would apparently help explain why he shot the white supremacist and Christian nationalist Charlie Kirk.

Mainstream politicos use "genuine concerns" and "legitimate concerns" interchangeably. They aren't. "Genuine concern" = we believe people are sincerely anxious or angry. "Legitimate concern" = we signal we think being discomfited by a neighbour's skin colour is ok. Sure we want to signal the latter?

A few quick notes & questions from Belfast: 1. Community response was astounding. 370+ ppl rescued, rehoused, fed, clothed, reassured. Some in homes. Some in offices of grassroots orgs - Loyalist and Republican both, 2. Houses will very likely burn this summer in England too. Are we ready?

Gotta say, it's all good (and right) to make fun of grifters saluting loyalist Belfast rioters as Irish patriots, but calling them "settlers" and comparing Belfast to West Bank is just as stupid, and as dangerous. Probably more so, given the live-wire sectarianism it invokes.

Some thoughts on the policy and politics of raiding infrastructure budgets. The TL;DR is 'don't do it, do you really want your final act as PM to be *yet another* poorly thought through hospital pass for your party and your successor?'

Raiding infrastructure budgets to fund defence stores up trouble
Cancelling projects is already politically costly, while more military investment is unlikely to boost economic growth

Glenn Gibbins, Sunderland: suspended by Reform following allegations of racism (May 2026).
Jay Cooper, Sefton: declared “not welcome” by Nigel Farage following reports of him calling the Holocaust a hoax (May 2026).
Stuart Prior, Essex: expelled by Reform and resigned after “he was accused the week before the elections of creating racist and Islamophobic posts on social media” (May 2026).
Note: Daniel Devaney (Bradford) said he was pulling out before polling day but got elected anyway. It is not yet clear if he is or is not now formally resigning as a councillor
