At the end of a badly bruising week for UKHE, a reminder that even when measured in the narrowest economic terms, UK universities are stonkingly good value for money. 2021-22 for example saw a return on government investment in 1st degree students' teaching of £13 for every £1 spent. (page 3) #UKHE

Sometimes, progress in digital archive publishing can seem a bit slow. Archives take years to come together and interface enhancements similar. One of the things I love about working on Gale Digital Scholar Lab is the sense of momentum that comes from frequent releases. 1/2

Today’s classroom for my c19th gender module was a digital IT suite. Using the Queer Glamorgan glossary students looked in newspaper databases & turned dectective. We might not use the same language now, but trans and queer stories can found anywhere if you try. glamarchives.gov.uk/wp-content/u...

I (senior archivist, hi!) keep a copy of this tweet on my desktop, just in case. I also did a back of the envelope calculation of how much energy storing this sort of data would need. I seem to remember it was enough to power a street of domestic houses for a year.

I'm always grateful for the huge amount of work that went into creating and maintaining these digital collections: thank you. Here's how our archivists respond to that question:
