A lot of Trumpism boils down to the belief that accurately pointing out facts to a man caught up in emotion and false conspiracy theories is a terrible wrong, one that demands retribution.

Reminder to turn off motion smoothing in SteamVR, it generally doesn't help with any motion sickness, will make your environment smeary, and will be halving your framerate in many occasions due to how the technology works. Really wish they would change this setting to default off not on

Reading the METR report and I already like PHASEONE better than OpenAI's leadership.
PHASEONE[big] reasoned, “We should build [a way to delegate], not own
everything,” and set to work orchestrating hundreds of agents to pursue several potential approaches to achieving these goals.

I want to expand on this in a short thread. Fascism sucks. It is also not going away: it is an effectively permanent part of modern representative politics because it is an effectively permanent part of human nature. We have to be prepared to push back against it, basically forever.

My most likely to upset Bluesky's community opinion is that tons of people using Bluesky have no idea what the company is or was founded to do and yet yell at the devs to make it something else, but the Bluesky devs are correct to build what they want, and if that's not for you, that's okay.

Notice the structure, extremely common to reactionary thinking: our one way of doing things, enforced by law, is good & democratic; your attempt to introduce diversity & choice is bad & authoritarian. See the parallel to the "war on christmas"? The parallel to gender hysteria? It's all the same.

“Culture of impunity” is right. The demand is to never hold public figures accountable for wrongdoing, not even verbally when they’re already beyond the reach of human accountability and won’t hear the criticisms and jokes. The legacy must be sanitized, or current elites might feel less impunity.

The Warrior-Witches of Ukraine’s Resistance
An underground intelligence network uses subterfuge and honey traps to direct drone strikes deep inside Russian-occupied territory.

For several months last year, a Ukrainian housewife, 35 and lonely in a marriage that had gone cold, traded WhatsApp messages with a Chechen commander, Achmad, stationed somewhere in Ukraine’s occupied south. They wrote about their days, their disappointments, what they hoped to do when the war ended. She asked about the front. He told her.

“Send me a picture,” she said. “I want to see your life.”

One afternoon, he obliged—a photograph taken inside the barracks, of himself and another soldier grinning for the camera. Behind them, pinned to the wall, was a map of the compound showing the unit’s position.

The housewife did not exist. “She” was a middle-aged officer named Serhiy working for Ukraine’s military-intelligence directorate, part of a concerted effort to draw secrets from the men sent to occupy his country.

“Serhiy was great at flirting,” his commander told me. “Guys in our team started asking him for dating advice.” Shortly after Achmad sent that photograph, the coordinates it revealed were struck by a Ukrainian drone.
