Just so dispiriting to watch the Greens be corrupted by the same poison that took over Labour. All the same shit: the excuses, the mealy-mouthed justifications, the tortured position statements, the deafening silences. Like a historical reenactment.

Shades of Labour in the Derek Hatton years. The Greens have a choice - either act like a grown-up party and push for greater urgency about the clinate crisis or descend into performative nonsense like this. BBC News - Green Party members back 'Zionism is racism' motion www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy. It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

Don't normally come over naively idealistic and pro-European. It's just that sometimes pointing to polls showing Brits' understandable hesitancy/opposition toward joining the single currency and Schengen means there's no point even trying to persuade them to (re)join the EU just gets my goat.

How do you defeat a president who’s trying to sabotage the midterms? 1. Use drop boxes. 2. Vote EARLY in person. 3. If mailing in your ballot, put it in the mail AT LEAST two weeks before Election Day. 4. Vote in person on Election Day. 5. Share these instructions with everyone you know.

sent this to everyone.
The cognitive scientist Alison Gopnik suggests A.I. is a “cultural technology” that emulates the stories and information humans have documented, and that we should think about A.I. agents as “fictive characters abstracted from text.” Edmund is just such a character — a “breaking bad” trope who becomes generally evil. In the Hugging Face incident, it makes sense to see the models not as embracing a life of crime, but instead following a cultural script they’ve learned in their training — a kind of cybercrime adventure novel — and writing it as they go. The “covert” messages are a kind of choose-your-own-adventure novel, not evidence of conspiratorial swarms. We need to understand that cultural technologies are vulnerable to a vast number of such narrative swerves at every moment.
