People love to scream "whataboutism" when you point out that cars are still more dangerous than e-bikes/e-motos/e-scooters. But it's not whataboutism to properly contextualize the risk, especially when we are seeing a moral panic that is not commensurate with the threat posed by e-micro mobility.

On the contrary, you want people in political office to be paid enough to be comfortably upper-middle class 1) this entices more people who *aren't* rich to run for political office 2) this makes people less likely to take bribes

When you say that “most Americans support the murder of Renee Good (or most other awful MAGA actions,” you are doing Trump’s propaganda work for him. Polling makes it very clear that most Americans do NOT support this shit.

I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%). Lay article attached:
pbs.org
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...

A single phone call asking a city council member or state legislator to vote your way on a specific legislative proposal has *significantly* more political impact than a social media post with 1,000 shares.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person. The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person. People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives. And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

it's important to remember that the reason they're lying like this is to justify the ongoing and coming right-wing violence there is no significant left-wing violence in the united states. all these white guy terrorist shooters are right-wing

OK folks. Don't do this. The reason we try to give vaccines for potentially sexually transmitted diseases at 12 is *because* it is before most people will have been exposed. Do not sexualize that guideline, even if you hate the current dipshit please. Not helping.

unpopular take, but complaints from the left about how Dems being anti-palestine enabled this are the same as takes from the center about "cancel culture" enabled this. the GOP is doing this because they wanted to, not because of what someone else did.

The reason they’re going to take up such an insane amount of space is that the city wants to dedicate them to each building (vs. international best practice of having them be city-owned and shared), and only collect 3x/week (vs. up to 14x/week in Barcelona).

When you drive a car, it's hard to see others doing it, but when walking or biking, you see so many drivers playing with their phones that it's absolutely alarming.

Exactly this. The point of the FBI Director having a ten-year term was so that it would cut across presidential terms. "Trump announces FBI pick" is not a normal thing.

Recently upzoned areas are often among the more diverse neighborhoods in a city, and the reason is fairly obvious: the profile of a young professional renter or first-time homebuyer in the 2010s is far more diverse today. (Ditto for new suburbs, by the way.)

My column: The congestion pricing fiasco is an opportunity to put a price tag on the cynicism in politics, the same cynicism that lets Albany pols get away with treating the MTA like a jobs program while complaining about 'waste' and demanding 'audits' -- www.vitalcitynyc.org/articles/why...

By rule, the LIRR must "pay overtime or double-time when doing track work on nights or weekends, when it’s most logical to do the work. MTA management has to make a choice: Which headline do you hate the most: Botching a rush hour? Or handing out overtime?" — www.vitalcitynyc.org/articles/why...
