Tory £6bn inheritance tax cut plan Increase threshold from £1m per couple to £2m+home. In 2024-25, 30,400 estates paid IHT, may rise to 52,100 in 2029-30. IHT cut for the richest, paid by cutting benefits for old, sick, disabled, unemployed. How will it help economic growth, reindustrialization?

Assuming that all those who support the Tories policy reinstatement of free child care for those earning over £100,000 will equally welcome the Tories policy of scrapping inheritance tax?. Notwithstanding the Tories policy of slashing welfare payments to poor & sick by 50+ billion.

I understand the desire to speak well of the dead, and am sure that Archer, like all of us, was a mix of good and bad. But the tendency to indulge dishonesty, so long as it's by a loveable scamp, has done real damage to British politics. We should be a bit wary of the "isn't he a card?" thing.

Sorry but if Politoco’s reporting of the extreme far right Tory Party electoral strategy of tacking centre to appeal to middle class LD’s & Labour voters is true then it’s one of the most batshit political strategies, guaranteed to failure, I’ve ever heard.

It is incredibly telling, to me at least, how Cameron and May were more progressive on trans rights, and yet even those areas of recognition are being rolled back/completely destroyed by Labour, yet trans and non-binary individuals are ignored, talked over, and told to shut up and support Labour.

This is almost certainly true, and the UK fails women refugees in multiple ways, including by refusing safe routes to come here, wrongly rejecting asylum claims, barring family reunion & not recognising trafficking victims promptly or at all. If only Mahmood had the power to do something about this

Lots of talk of growth ahead of the Budget, as if it were a baroque puzzle. Our problem is basic. It's that we no longer support the things which facilitate growth: Europe, immigration, higher education, tax simplification, policy stability. These are all choices and could stop making them anytime.

No, I think that lets them off too easily, see rest of my thread. Condemning violence/illegality is easy. But (say) chanting "send them all back" is AFAICS likely to be entirely legal in most contexts. That does not mean it is an expression of "legitimate concerns" and Ministers should say so.

That was precisely my problem with Tapp’s comment. Essentially he was saying, “why are you protesting when we’re addressing your concerns?”. What happened yesterday was illegal.
Martin Gallagher, a former superintendent, told GB News that there had been an "intelligence failure" by the force. "Whatever intelligence opportunities exist about this group, the anti-immigration group, they've obviously failed," he said.
He raised the idea of the police using the Public Order Act 1936 to counter such protests. That legislation relates to a group forming in uniform that can be seen as acting against the state and was drawn up to counter Sir Oswald Mosley, the leader of the British fascists in the 1930S.
