It doesn’t but it does illustrate absolute imperative for Burnham to provide evidence (obvs w/o compromising security). And it absolutely requires him to quickly initiate a full-scale inquiry into Russian interference, influence & funding in U.K. especially in U.K. politics; parties & politicians

Fair enough😁 I did use the verb ‘will’ wasn’t expecting it , this minute. But in terms of just pledging an inquiry, not the terms of it etc don’t see there’s anything to ‘think about’ imo.

Rather be subject to a hissy fit than vilified & harassed by black shirted fascists, egged on by right wing politicians, just because of my nationality, ethnicity, colour of my skin etc
100
davegearing @davegearing.bsky.social · 13h
And I far rather be subject to a hissy fit abt misuse of a pronoun from someone in the office than be deported just for legally living for years in the U.K. and done no wrong in this country.
100
davegearing @davegearing.bsky.social · 13h
Indeed & that’s completely wrong & out of order if use of “wrong” pronoun was inadvertent. But identity consists of other components apart fm gender; nationality, ethnicity, religion etc.
100
davegearing @davegearing.bsky.social · 14h
And it is that not largely a problem coming from the right.
100
davegearing @davegearing.bsky.social · 14h
This is a genuine question Is it really in equal measures right and left? and is the actual real problem people trying to impose their identity on others, is not the real problem those, who for extreme political purposes, who are trying to deny people their right to an identity of their choosing.

So presumably Burnham will ensure the report will be ‘unsuppressed’ & issued in full, unredacted. And he will also launch an urgent investigation into Russian influence in entire UK political arena incl Russian money & particularly related to U.K. political parties/politicians. He will, won’t he?

Just for once I’d like the leaders of Europe, U.K., Ukraine and the entirety of their medias to be able to grasp the bleeding obvious. If Krasnov acts/governs like, talks like and looks like a Russian asset, … he is a Russian asset.

Far far worse is that it and the tax break on child care for those on £100,000 will be funded by ferocious attacks on the lives of the poor and sick by means of savage welfare cuts of £50bn+

Tory £6bn inheritance tax cut plan Increase threshold from £1m per couple to £2m+home. In 2024-25, 30,400 estates paid IHT, may rise to 52,100 in 2029-30. IHT cut for the richest, paid by cutting benefits for old, sick, disabled, unemployed. How will it help economic growth, reindustrialization?

Assuming that all those who support the Tories policy reinstatement of free child care for those earning over £100,000 will equally welcome the Tories policy of scrapping inheritance tax?. Notwithstanding the Tories policy of slashing welfare payments to poor & sick by 50+ billion.

I understand the desire to speak well of the dead, and am sure that Archer, like all of us, was a mix of good and bad. But the tendency to indulge dishonesty, so long as it's by a loveable scamp, has done real damage to British politics. We should be a bit wary of the "isn't he a card?" thing.

It is incredibly telling, to me at least, how Cameron and May were more progressive on trans rights, and yet even those areas of recognition are being rolled back/completely destroyed by Labour, yet trans and non-binary individuals are ignored, talked over, and told to shut up and support Labour.

Think it is less likely to happen anywhere on the same scale with 2 parties, like Greens & Labour, with a massive raft of policy differences and a very substantial gap to where they are in relation to each other on the political spectrum.

This is almost certainly true, and the UK fails women refugees in multiple ways, including by refusing safe routes to come here, wrongly rejecting asylum claims, barring family reunion & not recognising trafficking victims promptly or at all. If only Mahmood had the power to do something about this

It’s a million times less progressive when you pledge to make those on 100 grand better off while simultaneously pledging to make a ferocious assault on the living standards to the tune of 50 billion + of the sick and some of the poorest in the land.

davegearing @davegearing.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The fact that they are proposing to make those on 100,000 better off while simultaneously in the same breath talking about massive cuts off £50 million plus to the poorest and sickest in the country is exactly the behaviour that everyone would expect fm the Tories.

davegearing @davegearing.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I don’t think the vast majority of those alive today need this proposal to ‘paint’ the Tories as favouring the rich. A review of the policies passed by Tory Govts for decades will surely demonstrate that is their DNA.

Err no, sadly Krasnov’s far from the biggest idiot on earth. Krasnov is a fascist, a Russian asset, a President who incited the attempted violent overthrow of U.S. democracy, a rapist, a President who openly admits he’s a man who openly in the street sexually assaulted hundreds/thousands of women.

Absolutely superb article. If, and it’s a big if in my mind, Burnham is really serious about considering a full rejoin or a SM rejoin then he will have to be bashing this argument home over and over again starting now. I suspect that isn’t going to happen but desperately hope I’m wrong.
