If true, this would be a terrible start and the worst possible message to send if @andyburnham.bsky.social wants to be seen as taking a positive new direction. Parts of the UK are literally on fire right now.

Greens making a habit of taking on Reform - and winning! Robert Jenrick came to visit - as did Emily Thornberry. And their vote share both dropped. Huge congratulations to the entire Green Party team. People power wins the day once again! 💚🙌🏽

Kent is supposed to be Reform’s “shop window” where they show off what they’re doing. Huge respect to the local people who worked hard to make this happen. I hope folks all over the country can take heart from this and get ever more active for the May elections.

We could've phased out fossil fuels the gradual, smart and painless way starting in the 1990s The fossil fuel industry decided we have to do it the painful, unfair and cruel way instead. because that gave them an extra few decades of super-profits

Fortunately we were able to secure some grants to get new insulation and solar panels at our community centre which will definitely help, but it’s required a large amount of fundraising and admin from volunteers plus a big dollop of luck. We urgently need more public support for community retrofit.

The only way Reform UK could win a general election is through our first-past-the-post system. If we had proportional representation, the threat would evaporate. We don't have PR because Starmer has blocked it. This allows him to say: vote Labour or you get Farage. Because it's all he has left.

Danny Chivers @dannychivers.bsky.social · 15/03/2026
It’s proportional representation so the vote can’t be split. In fact, the way it’s likely to stack up the more votes for the Greens the fewer seats for Reform, no matter what happens with Plaid. So it’s all good.

Energy insecurity. Higher bills. Exposure to catastrophic economic consequences of Trump's wars. That's what happens when you fail to shift fast enough to renewables, and cut back on support for clean energy. Let's cut bills & create jobs through a clean power revolution.

Some wise words from Adam here. The Greens have a real shot in this by-election but canvassers may be missing a trick if they aren’t explaining to voters how a Green victory will shake up Westminster for the better, rather than just saying “vote for us to beat Reform”. I hope they’re doing both!

It was studying environmental science that made me realise we needed to tackle inequality as one of the main drivers of environmental breakdown. Also, the points Zack makes very much reflect the majority opinion in the UK, including those who prioritise the environment. I see minimal conflict here.

I’ve heard from campaigners in a couple of recent council by-elections here in Cardiff that they’re finding surprising numbers of people wavering between Green and Reform. They’re obviously and rightly angry at the status quo. Time to offer them ambition and hope, not fear and despair.

I think you’d be surprised. Out doorknocking, I’ve met a significant minority of people who are angry at the status quo and just want to vote against the establishment. They aren’t very aware of Reform’s actual policies, they just want to give Labour & Tories a kicking. Very winnable to the Greens.

Where does airport expansion fit into the Government’s zero carbon vision? Along with refusing to rule out the Rosebank oil field and failing to retrofit homes fast enough? I’m glad they’re still pursuing electricity decarbonisation, but this is hugely undermined by their other actions.

Here in the UK, nothing is publicly announced until every vote is counted. It means longer waits for results but avoids misunderstandings over changing margins as more votes come through. I was shocked when I first found out that US elections have running totals and media calling races early - wild!

I do agree that a government shouldn’t obsess over daily polls. But I’m not surprised that those of us used to two-party domination are finding them so fascinating and sharing them around. Also, the rise of the Greens represents a rare bit of hope for many of us against the horror of Reform.

Danny Chivers @dannychivers.bsky.social · 07/11/2025
Fair point - if the government had focused on creating meaningful change rather than chasing Reform in the polls perhaps they wouldn’t be so unpopular now. But on the flipside, highlighting the rise of the Greens could be helpful in pushing Labour to be bolder and more progressive. We can only hope.

But the polls do matter. Research shows that lots of people would like to vote Green, but have always assumed they wouldn’t win and so cast their vote tactically elsewhere. The higher the Greens rise in the polls, the more people see they’re actually a viable prospect, which changes that equation.

Of course the solutions to our problems are complex and challenging, and I’ve never heard Zack suggest otherwise. The Green Party has detailed policy on all the key issues facing the country, developed over years. Zack’s just found a more effective and punchier way to communicate those policies.
