Happy to see our latest paper out. Led by Rachel Searston, we investigated whether participants could accurately verify identity from non-overlapping face fragments. Across 3 pre-registered experiments, we show above chance performance in our novel "spotlight" task. link.springer.com/article/10.3...

Unfamiliar face matching is difficult. The average person has an error rate ~20%. And it's hard to improve. In our new study, @pjbhancock.bsky.social and I find an 8% improvement in face matching performance via the "wisdom of the crowd within" effect. Paper: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....
