Mayor Wilson can you confirm or deny the allegations that you yourself use the bathroom and so this is just another example of a self serving policy so that you can use the toilet while out and about?

I don’t think there’s enough extra capacity on 3rd to remove a lane! Do it to a car street.

There are amazing people across this city working hard to make real the vision of a car-free street in the heart of every neighborhood and it's pretty damn cool.

You're talking to people who spend all their free time pushing for anything better. Noah is one of the most committed people I know to a vision of the transportation system we deserve.

So much room for improvement in transit software/display design in the US, made worse by the fact that they could just copy what’s already out there in other countries.

I just don’t see how voting for the lesser evil got us here. Trump is elected because people didn’t vote or voted third party. People campaigned against Harris because they wanted to teach democrats a lesson and we got Trump.

The AI industry is so disgusting. Any belief I had in OpenAI going about this in good faith went away when I read this letter.

"Doctors, lawyers and engineers" is an international online Nazi trope. The "joke" is that non-White people are too stupid to be anything other than a criminal or someone who leeches social services. Read a Spanish newspaper about Ceuta, e.g., and you'll see "médicos y ingenieros" in the comments.

I’m not arguing about free fares in general, I’m just arguing about whether people are excluded from rider surveys because of fares. My statement is that the number of people who *never* ride transit because of the fare is vanishingly small.

Daniel Heppner @danielhep.me · 03/09/2026
Pay $10 more for groceries because the bus costs $3? I don’t think so. I’m sure there are some people who replace some transit with walking because of the cost (I do it!) but it’s not like they’re not transit riders at all and excluded from the survey.

Daniel Heppner @danielhep.me · 03/09/2026
It’s not like people just won’t go places though. Cars are much more expensive than transit, so I’m not sure what being priced out of transit means in this context. Are there really people out there who buy a car not because service is bad but because the fare is $3?

Walking was the fastest thing people did. Most people were juggling, riding kids electric race cars, jumping with legs tied, etc. It’s truely a huge difference.

Here's the reality: Rather than dither in the face of critical mistakes made by SPD leadership, she demanded his resignation, got it done without a legal fight, and is moving on to hire a new chief. Most people I talk to agree the chief should be fired and think Wilson got this right.

Yes, like I said the problem is the backdoor fare increase, not fare capping.
010
Daniel Heppner @danielhep.me · 31/07/2026
just contribute the cost of 4x weekly fare caps and if you spend less then that means fare capping saved you money!

Daniel Heppner @danielhep.me · 31/07/2026
That's not how it worked with the metrocard monthly though... And in other cities you still have to tap. For example, you will absolutely get "cited" in Seattle if you have a monthly and don't tap.

Daniel Heppner @danielhep.me · 31/07/2026
This is certainly not how I see fare capping, I am way more likely to pay/ride with fare capping since my fare is going towards a pass. When I have to decide at the start of the month whether a pass will be worthwhile, I end up not getting one and then I ride transit way less.
100
Daniel Heppner @danielhep.me · 31/07/2026
I think you’re attacking the wrong thing. The problem is not fare capping, it’s that they set the cap to an amount that is higher than the monthly pass was. They could have switching to capping like many other cities and just set the price to the same as the monthly unlimited.

Daniel Heppner @danielhep.me · 31/07/2026
wait I don’t understand, what’s the problem with bus proof of payment and fare capping? I don’t see how these things conflict with each other at all. When you are capped you just tap again on the bus and it won’t charge you.
