He advised another grad student, set him up with a diss topic + project. Grad student took undergrads to a strip club during project, word got back. They quickly helped him finish his PhD and then networked to find him a job advising undergrads at another college in the state.

My advisor at Iowa referred to one of my grad school colleagues as "the sexy redhead in the back" to undergrad students. Only my (female) friend and I batted an eye. This was early 2000s. Program was basically on the intersection of race/class/gender and education, so irony there. I left before PhD.

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

Maybe 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just the same, Im going to keep knocking doors and talking with voters just like I did with our current, multi-term "unelectable" Representative. The alternative is to jump on the Trump Train now, and I just can't do that.

"They" being all of the Republican candidates who, up until recently, had billboards proclaiming their BFF-ness with Trump, plus posts on Insta, Facebook, etc.. Scrubbing their socials and hoping enough Kansans have the memories of goldfish. Which reminds me.... Vote for Holscher!
An Instagram post posted by Ty Masterson, Republican gubernatorial candidate in Kansas. Masterson is in the Oval Office, standing stiffly next to a grinning Trump. Masterson is wearing a red tie. Trump is not. An article is attached, with the headline "Trump phones in rally for Masterson: 'We love each other. We love that state."

Im in *Kansas,* and even here are a lot of Republicans who, at the least, won't vote for candidates associated with Trump. They're all scrubbing their socials.... And a lot are going further and voting for the Dems on the ballot. Yes, we'll keep knocking and calling, but there is room for hope.

“I don’t know,” Angel replied before bursting into tears. He stared ahead stoically and continued to cry, eventually saying: “I have no one. I have nothing.”

“I understand, but based on your answers, US immigration laws are very strict,” the judge concluded, and gave Angel until the end of the month to appeal his deportation order.

Yeah, I dont think it's an improvement, but it's not a statement fully in support of ICE, Kristi Noem style. If he thought more Trump would win him the election here, he'd have followed her lead. Our Republican gubernatorial candidate is also trying to distance himself from Trump.

It seems to have led to Sen Marshall putting out a statement in which he tries to very lightly distance himself from the GOP on this issue. So having an effect on candidates. I suspect it will sway/motivate voters as well. ~3 weeks until early voting starts here.
Statement, posted on x, from Sen. Roger Marshall:
When ICE operates in Kansas, it needs to coordinate with our local law enforcement. Our sheriffs and police know these communities better than anyone, and working together keeps officers and residents safe.

I'm closely following what's been happening in SW Kansas and have been in direct contact with Secretary Mullin and local law enforcement as ICE executes warrants in order to keep Kansans safe.

Strong agree, candidates absolutely must put the "Trump-oligarch alliance" and "Trump’s use of the DOJ and EPA as a goon squad to crush local opposition" at the center of their data center messaging. It's a political winner AND people need to understand the critical importance of the federal role.
