"They" being all of the Republican candidates who, up until recently, had billboards proclaiming their BFF-ness with Trump, plus posts on Insta, Facebook, etc.. Scrubbing their socials and hoping enough Kansans have the memories of goldfish. Which reminds me.... Vote for Holscher!
An Instagram post posted by Ty Masterson, Republican gubernatorial candidate in Kansas. Masterson is in the Oval Office, standing stiffly next to a grinning Trump. Masterson is wearing a red tie. Trump is not. An article is attached, with the headline "Trump phones in rally for Masterson: 'We love each other. We love that state."

It seems to have led to Sen Marshall putting out a statement in which he tries to very lightly distance himself from the GOP on this issue. So having an effect on candidates. I suspect it will sway/motivate voters as well. ~3 weeks until early voting starts here.
Statement, posted on x, from Sen. Roger Marshall:
When ICE operates in Kansas, it needs to coordinate with our local law enforcement. Our sheriffs and police know these communities better than anyone, and working together keeps officers and residents safe.

I'm closely following what's been happening in SW Kansas and have been in direct contact with Secretary Mullin and local law enforcement as ICE executes warrants in order to keep Kansans safe.

Each sentence of this is more ghoulish than the previous. Also I wonder: is there an efficient word that describes surgeries performed out of necessity due to a late miscarriage?
Screenshot of text from the article stating: "Two said that the bills Mr Marshall pursued in court stemmed from late miscarriages that required surgery."

In case anyone is interested in the event wording, but without the scare quotes, it sounds like a description of literally any story time except with an LGBTQ theme. Meeting new friends?!?! The horror!!!
No image. Text reads:
What to expect: Join us for a queer-led story time with an LGBTQ+ theme. We'll share stories, sing songs and do an activity with time to meet new friends at the end.

Families with toddlers and preschoolers.

Recently returned from a family vacation to NYC, where we spent a good long time at the Stonewall Visitors Center. I snapped this photo so that I'd be better able to hold onto this.
Quote on a wall at the Stonewall Visitors Center attributed to Honey Dijon, who is a Black, trans woman, American DJ, and who thoughtfully chose the music available on the jukebox at the Center. States: "The music I selected is a way to understand this historical moment in time through a different lens, through the musical lens. Because it wasnt all just fighting back. It was also joy, celebration, community, and sisterhood."

Now that we're at war, we have to pay for more luxury jets for Kristi Noem! Otherwise the terrorists win! (Why am I automatically hearing this in Eric Cartman's voice?)
A post by Mike Lawler (Republican US Representative from New York) from X, which states: "Given the situation in the Middle East and the potential for Iran and its terrorist proxies to attempt some type of attack, it is imperative that Senator Schumer and Representative Jeffries immediately drop all opposition to funding the Department of Homeland Security and pass the funding bill."

Posted this on Facebook, 9 years ago today:
Do you think it should be disqualifying for someone who has the President's ear to say, "Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”?

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security is taking calls about Steve Bannon's appointment to the NSC. You can call: 202-224-4751.

And if the measles are happening in 2 different states simultaneously?
Screenshot of a skeet which states that "ICE confirms measles outbreak at Dilley family detention center." Source of the news article is CBS, which specifies that Dilley is in Texas. Worth pointing out that the junior senator from Kansas has been referring to this as The Marshall Plan. Which was already a thing, and specifically was a thing that helped people and which today's Republicans would have ended and called "waste, fraud, and abuse."
A screenshot from Senator Roger Marshall's Facebook page, in which he introduced his The Marshall Plan, along with bullet points of his plan.

Does she think the US does this for funsies? The parents of Chinese students (used to?) send their kids here and pay full tuition, subsidizing poor American kids like me. If neither foreigners nor our gvmt pays for college, who does? Likewise, visas are a moneymaker for the US gvmt:
H1B holders and their spouses contribute around $2.4 billion in Federal and payroll taxes and $11 billion in state and local taxes annually. There are also additional fees...

Ah yes, President Art of the Deal. (As long as that Deal isn't being made with a handful of weak little snowflakes, evidently. Very strong man, who can't keep the government running with majorities in both the House and Senate. Strong!)
The landing page at whitehouse.gov. Now includes the phrase "Democrats Have Shut Down the Government" with a timer counting up, currently at 1 day, 9 hours, 58 minutes and 27 seconds, at the top of the page. The bulk of the page is a photo of Trump walking outside of the White House and the phrase America is Back in giant white font. It is quite the juxtaposition!

Fact check: False, Doc. Not that it matters, because we don"t just redistrict willy-nilly for glaringly obvious political reasons, like you and the Trump administration are brazenly trying to do. 🤷‍♀️
Line graph showing population of Texas over time. Indicates the population in April 2020 was 29.36 million. Line graph showing population of Texas over time. Indicates the population in 2024 was 31.29 million. If we subtract the population at the census (April 2020) with this most recent count, we see that the change has been 1.93 million. Despite what Senator "Doc" Marshall says, 1.93 million does not equal 7 million. Ope!

Another post (about learning, AS AN ADULT, the truth about George Washington's "wooden" teeth) reminded me of going to Mt Vernon with my kids last year and seeing this:
Graphic shows figures representing people living at Mt Vernon in 1799. Shows 253 enslaved people, 17 hired servants and their families, and 5 of Washington's family members.

Locally, people can contact AIRR-KC for ICE sightings, to be checked out and resources provided. They are at: 913-999-2398. (I saved the number because evidently I never know when I might be out for a meal with my family and witness an armed kidnapping.)

Colleen @dalgal412.bsky.social · 11/07/2025
Awful! I'm sorry that is happening. If you/they/the family haven't, you might reach out to AIRR-KC to report it, get it checked out and let them know to provide resources. This is an older graphic, but has their number.

But also....
Um, this is an l-shaped couch, except one end of it is a giant (no, bigger!) Corgi head and paws. The corgi has a well-earned look of smugness. There's an adult woman sitting on this corgi-couch masterpiece, just chillin'. Also the room they're in is all windows. And there's a standard light grey couch against 1 window, behind the corgi-couch. No one sits there, because why would you? No corgi!

And also because they are planning to use the alligators (and pythons) that live there as security. Which is some real slavery-era behavior.

Orrrr reasons that are known both to mankind, as well as to Google.
The 1913 income tax in the U.S. was established through the ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment and the subsequent Revenue Act of 1913. This act implemented a federal income tax, primarily aimed at shifting the tax burden towards higher earners and making up for revenue lost due to tariff reductions. The amendment itself was a result of a combination of factors, including the financial strain of the Civil War and the Progressive movement's push for a more equitable tax system.

Very happy to talk with Board of Ed members in Blue Valley about what they're doing great work on and what next steps could look like on gun violence prevention (= suicide prevention) in the district! #BeSMART

Hey, @maddow.msnbc.com! About 40 people, including 12 of my @momsdemand.bsky.social pals (+ 1 they recruited on the spot!), showed up in Parsons, KS (pop. 9362) this weekend to protest the Trump administration's anti-democratic moves ❤️
7 people, dressed for rain, holding protest signs, including: "...and justice for all," "hands off our democracy," "No kings in America," and "Hey Trump, No pay here. We resist you for free."

Let's see--how did that go the first time around....
The Great Depression led to massive unemployment and economic hardship, men abandoning their families, and record high suicide rates. It would seem that pursuing such "manly" economic policies might not be great for actual men. 🤷‍♀️

That isn't what she said. I'm not sure I've seen anyone saying this. I HAVE seen Black people pointing out (accurately) that "most, not all" white people benefit from a system that was built on racism. The quote (?) that you have here really isn't racism, b/c it's not making an unfair advantage.

A photo of a committee room at the Capitol in Topeka, full of people in chairs, but definitely with room for more chairs.

Text by ACLU-Kansas attached says, "Today, the Kansas Senate Federal and State committee is hearing a bill that would rewrite our constitution to make our State's Supreme Court judges subject to partisan elections. To prepare for the hearing, the committee took out most of the chairs, labeled the remaining seats as reserved, and packed the room with supporters of the bill. We may have to stay on the outskirts, but we are here to say NO POWER GRABS."

Good to process feelings and plan next steps with our local @momsdemand.bsky.social crew last night! The battle is uphill but continues, starting with building community and providing ways to get + stay engaged in the work.
A photo of approximately 40 people (mostly appear to be white women) attending a local Moms Demand Action meeting & holding signs in support of that group.
