@wildflowerhour.bsky.social Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage has a peppermint taste and can be used in salads. Historically it was used to treat problems with the spleen and also, in some societies, respiratory problems. It is a bright highlight to shady woods.

...lowers our risk of dying (taking into account the many socioeconomic/demographic/health variables) for years. Going to museums and live music events reduces our physiological age, & a monthly cultural activity halves the chance of depression. If a drug could do this, we'd investing £ billions.

Here is a video of a frozen creek that had begun to thaw, and the water was flowing beneath the thin ice on top. I took this because it was soothing and wonderfully bloopy and I wanted to listen to it for hours. You are all welcome to enjoy it, too. Let your brain settle here and rest for a moment.

Black Knapweed (Centauria nigra, left) has less divided leaves than Greater Knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa, right). The latter has more showy flowers. There is a slight difference in the bract covered area below the purple area (C. nigra is slightly more flask shaped, C. scabiosa more globular).

Common Dodder, Cuscuta epithymum, parasitising Gorse (Ulex minor I think in this case) on Thursley Common. This fascinating plant has no chlorophyll and no roots, and gains all its nutrition by attaching itself directly to the stems of its host plant via special structures called haustoria.
