Earlier this year, I tried (unsuccessfully) to protect a Bee Orchid, right in the heart of my village. Well, I’ve found another rosette in a similar location- time to try again (it’s a long time until flowering time though 😬) #orchid

Went with my kids to experience the autumn equinox at Stonehenge this week. Walking back along the A303 my daughter picked this lovely wild autumnal posy for her mum 😍 23/9/26 See ALT text #WildflowerHour @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
Posy containing Yarrow, Common Toadflax, Cow Parsley, Nipplewort, Cranesbill, Hawkweed, Lady’s Bedstraw.

One of the (several) reasons I make the most of open access at Stonehenge is my interest in lichens. There are 70-80 species here (some very rare). Today’s equinox was an opportunity to get up close. They’ll be even better at the winter solstice. #lichen #stonehenge #equinox

What I think is Polyporus tuberster (Tuberous polypore). Happy to be corrected. #fungi In a Hampshire wood 21/9/26
According to the rather prescient First Nature website “The tubers are reputed to store essential food substances necessary for the fungi to survive in harsh environments. (In Britain's temperate climate Polyporus tuberaster may not need such an insurance policy, but perhaps evolution has equipped it to cope with extremes of climate change yet to come)” One of the few fungi seen in a very dry wood today.

My #favouriteplant was always going to be an orchid but which one? This Small White Orchid (Pseudorchis albida) isn’t the most spectacular but it was hard won ! I camped in the middle of nowhere and braved the June rain to see this individual. #wildflowerhour @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
