It was such a treat to find these gorgeous little green cup mushrooms in the forest this morning. Usually all I can ever find is the bright turquoise mycelia in the rotting wood. Finding the thumbnail size fruiting bodies is pretty rare for me. Their colour is unreal. 🍄🌿

Just a couple hundred miles from Mexico's southwestern coast, Hurricane Polo strengthens even further. Polo has recently recorded a central pressure of 892 millibars, making it the second most-intense Eastern Pacific hurricane on record, behind 2015's Hurricane Patricia.

Hurricane Polo's rapid intensification is seriously impressive... A special 19Z update was issued by the NHC stating that reconnaissance aircraft found that Polo's central pressure is sitting at 892 mb, the 2nd strongest EPAC hurricane by pressure only behind Hurricane Patricia (2015; 872 mb).

The likely emergence of a major El Niño event was a key part of our forecast for a relatively quiet Atlantic tropical cyclone season (see below). But as I point out in the article (see also below), that doesn't mean there isn't a threat of major landfalling hurricanes.
