Most TTRPGs are basically resource management games and should lean further into that. Tracking rations, ammunition, encumbrance etc can be a fun and interesting part of the experience if you let it (and if the mechanics are interesting) and players do themselves a disservice by handwaving them.

I really don't care if AI is sentient, that's not my area of expertise and I don't know how that shit works. What I do know for sure is that it's harmful technology by literally every metric that matters. I wish for every data center to be demolished and for all AI companies to go bankrupt.

It's much less of a problem at higher levels when PCs have access to Ghost Touch weapons and spells to restrict or punish their movement, but a shadow is a level 4 monster, which means it's very popular as a mini-boss in the early stages of the game, before such things are available.

Shadows are incorporeal, which means they can appear, attack and clear off through a wall, all in one turn, and there's really not a lot a low-level party can do to stop them. They also have a bunch of nasty abilities and resistances that low-level PCs generally aren't equipped to deal with.

I've never run a shadow encounter that wasn't a miserable time for everyone involved. There's one real early in Abomination Vaults that my party just ran from, then came back 4 levels later to annihilate with a vengeance.

#pathfinder2e encounter: 2 shadows that pincer the party on a narrow staircase. No room to move. We got through one round, nothing much happened, then basically said "this is going to be awful, isn't it? Let's just not do this one." Spell slots refunded, monsters removed. Gotta do it sometimes.

I strongly recommend the Shadow Campaigns series by Django Wexler. Napoleonic War type setting with a smattering of magic and romance. The Thousand Names is the first book if you're interested.
