Direct VDOT to Roanoke for an example of recently installed separates bike lanes. Matching to existing Eastern Ave, which is wide enough to land a plane on, is not a sufficient reason to repeat paint separated bike lanes. Prioritize safety - same amount of pavement.

Meeting wraps up. Heard productive and interesting things; still think this was a clunky format for engagement. My takeaway: flood the comments with calls for a shared use path/protected bike lane. It's doable, possible, and still a needle that can be moved.

Could've been Park Ridge Drive in Crozet, but instead we went with barely-marked bike lanes that serve as parking for cop cars, and we spend county money on studies to figure out why the fuck people speed on our wide-ass suburban roads.

The reason so many of us get annoyed about conversations around e-bikes is that we are seeing cities and towns taking dramatic steps to try and curtail e-bike usage while they shrug at the daily carnage caused by cars. It's extra infuriating because e-bikes ARE REPLACING CARS.

My 14 year old wants to bike the ~3 miles to high school. I told him he can’t do that because it’s not safe, as the city hasn’t prioritized the well being of kids and other non-drivers. It doesn’t have to be this way - and isn’t even that hard to fix - but it is this way.
