It's officially pumpkin season, which happens to be a special treat for our ambassador wolves this time of year! 🎃🐺 Although wolves are classified as carnivores, they can sometimes have an omnivorous diet. Along with meat and eggs, wolves may also enjoy fruits like pumpkins. #wolffact

Lately I've had both Fleischer Superman, and the New York Central's streamlined Hudsons in mind, so this was inevitable. It'll be a long time before I have a model train layout again, so for now I'll settle for animating my railroad ambitions.

every single person pushing this angle is intellectually bankrupt. The data centers being built today are for NOTHING other than AI compute, and are much, much larger and more destructive. If none of them got built, services like online banking, social media and streaming would continue to function.

The only data centre I want to see, is one that's got: About three VAX 8650s, a VAX-11/782, and a pair of IBM 3033s in it. A room with an Assortment of Unit Record Equipment (IBM 084, 087, 101+524, 407+519, 514, 557, 607), IBM 1401, and PDP-11/44. And a terminal room (with keypunches).

Twice a year, Hawai'i experiences a strange moment where the sun appears to be exactly overhead & anything that is completely vertical casts no shadow. Let's learn about Lāhainā Noon, subsolar points & 'Kau ka lā i ka lolo', meaning "the sun rests on the brains."
From a Reddit forum, a photo of a can of coconut milk with a blue label, papyrus text and a flip-top, on a sidewalk. It seems to hover because there's no visible shadow. The pavement is sort of unevenly colored, with bright spots, and the grass along it is green and lush.

I'm not saying it's PRACTICAL to build railroads or highways that connect London to New York via Nome/Fairbanks, I'm saying it's mostly FEASIBLE. The Bering Strait, if you connected the Diomede Islands, would require two bridges of 40 km (25 miles), ~the length of Lake Pontchartrain bridge.

In 1925, archaeologist Leonard Woolley was excavating the temple complex at the ancient city of Ur. That's the ziggurat in the background. As the excavation proceeded, he found something quite surprising: artifacts hundreds of years older than Ur itself. Let's talk about the oldest known museum.

So. I'm writing a guide, on my personal homepage—you can thank and/or blame @symbo1ics.bsky.social for giving me space for hosting this nonsense—on how to write C and FORTRAN 77 multi-language programs. I've been testing on Intel 64 and VAX. Then I remembered: I have a virtual z/Architecture!
Debian 9.13 running on an emulated z/Architecture mainframe. The screenshot is of a Vista TN3270 emulator connected to a Hercules "Hyperion" emulator.

The screenshot shows a logged in bash session, with several commands run.

First "uname -rv" was run, giving the output of "4.9.0-13-s390x #1 SMP Debian 4.9.228-1 (2020-07-05)".

Next, "make" was called, on a Makefile, gcc and gfortran are called to compile an application consisting of two files, one in C and one in FORTRAN.

Finally, the compiled application is run, showing four variable names and four floating point numbers.

Here are the tells I saw in this AI Shatner Collection image. The big takeway for me is that no single observation is hugely compelling and even taken together they might not convince anyone of the truth. I think there are three main ways we can still identify this kind of slop… [thread] 🧵
Image of a fake JCPenney ad for 'The Shatner Collection' covered in my own notes, which read as follows:

The weathering (on the card stock) is all too perfectly imperfect

This kind of fine masking around hair wasn't really possible in the 70s AFAIK (it could have been airbrushed)

Taken as a whole, I question where this 'original ad' was supposed to have come from. A magazine ad? It appears to be printed on heavy card stock.

It's also been perfectly scanned, which you rarely see with real scans of vintage material

Indistinct AI slop buckle design

1976 feels like an odd time to launch a Shatner collection!

Also this is not Star Trek themed, so why the Paramount copyright?

Garbled text (REGISTERED)

Strange collar blemish / shadow

Asymmetrical coLlar

This whole conversation pit reeks of Gen AI

(This leg looks too narrow to me, but eh)

The text is remarkably good however. Was this made entirely with GEN AI or did someone polish it up? I'd genuinely like to know.

The shading/weathering on this logo is a bit sus

None of these points alone are give a slam dunk verdict,
We're a long way beyond the simple six-finger giveaways
