When I started working in an office, a suit and you're was required After a few years, a tie was only required if you had a client-facing interview Them the tie requirement went. Then it became 'smart-casual' Then 'just make sure your hand don't have holes in them'

This is where the anti-trans movement was always heading. We said it repeatedly. There's a reason that one of the changes that protesters used against Posie Parker was: "Posie Parker, you can't hide; You've got Nazis on your side"

Anyone who uses 'DEI' is getting their talking points from America. The acronym in Britain is EDI. I know the acronym isn't the most important part of this whole sorry affair, but it is indicative of where this is coming from and who.

To be honest. we'd actually prefer to stop the drilling in the North Sea... - but if making Labour lose 50 seats and forcing them into coalition with us after the next election is the alternative, we can work with that. #NoNewOil #KeepItInTheGround www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

When I see commentators using terms like “DEI” I immediately suspect that they’re trying to ignite a US inspired (and maybe funded?) culture war here. Because the acronym used in the UK is EDI - equality, diversity, inclusion - linked to the equality act 2010. www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/1...

I would like to raise a glass to the echo chamber. Unless social media is a part of your job to engage with people who violently disagree with you, it is perfectly acceptable to spend time, both in person and virtual, with people you get along with.

It seems to me that "dropping a bombshell" by suddenly supporting new oil and gas is what counts for Dale Vince. By no means the first time he's taken a poorly-evidenced position that generates a lot of publicity. I see him as multi-millionaire self-publicist first, environmentalist a distant second
Post by Dale Vince stating he has just dropped a bombshell on North Sea oil and gas.

If we're now at the stage where parents are being warned posting images of their children leaves them open to abuse, *maybe* the answer isn't a social media ban, but rigorous action against an unregulated industry and maybe, finally, recognition that the existence of billionaires is actively bad?

We've just reached 50 days since @cpgarghan.bsky.social and I were elected to represent Billesley on Birmingham City Council. It's a great honour and we're just getting started with the things we want to do. Please get in touch via email if you're a resident who wants help with a local issue.
50 days since the election - what have we been doing in billesley? Sorting out littering & flytipping issues around flats and shops
Meeting with all the Friends’ groups in the area
Supporting residents with housing issues
Supporting residents with SEND transport appeals
Getting abandoned cars removed
Chasing up petitions for safer roads
Liaising with police about unauthorised encampments and getting broken fences repaired on green spaces
Ensuring residents are getting bins collected when problems arise

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.

Mine is so obscure that I can't find any reference to it on Google: The Invaderers - an SF comedy about two hapless alien invaders who are most closely related to cabbages. One gets decapitated in the 1st ep and spends the rest of the series with his head sticking out of a plant pot. It was on Sky1

The UK banning people under 16 from social media is going to have consequences that shouldn’t be unforeseen. The idea may feel sensible in a kneejerk fashion, but I really worry about isolating vulnerable kids. Abuse victims in particular might have an outside support network coldly cut off.

We see this with other violent criminals and terrorists. If people are violent to their partners and alleged loved ones, you can bet that they will have little compunction about using violence in the wider world. Domestic Abuse isn't just a red flag, it's a flashing red klaxon.

Last week the new Lord Mayor was elected at the Birmingham City Council AGM. The leader of the Green Group, Councillor Pritchard, has sent this letter in support of the words spoken by the Imam invited by the Lord Mayor. He spoke about unity, respect and honesty in a positive and inclusive way.
Letter from Julien Pritchard 29th May 2026: Dear Lord Mayor, We write with reference to the Meeting of the City Council held on Tuesday 19th May at the Council House. For many of our group of councillors it was our first experience of council business, and thanks to the supportive tone of the presentations and the mix of awards, speeches and business, we were made to feel welcome and comfortable in the Council Chamber. We were particularly moved by the peaceful and positive words of the Imam who spoke eloquently about an extract from the Quran. The English translation of this Ayat ensured that all councillors could clearly understand the message of unity, respect and honesty that was delivered. The message of working together respectfully for the benefit of others struck a chord with all of us. It is a message that will also resonate across our city to the Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, Humanist, atheist and Muslim residents who hope for effective representation as different groups of councillors seek to form an administration. In short, we felt that celebrating our city's shared commitment to respect and solidarity was entirely appropriate, and suited the moment perfectly. Yours Sincerely Councillor Julien Pritchard on behalf of the Birmingham Green Party Councillor Group
