Very stupid framing from Ed Balls. Yes, when public finances are under pressure, it makes sense politically to think about a lever that can increase GDP/head by at least 4% probably more per year, ever year, forever, the value of which today dwarfs anything else a govt might have on its mind.

I can't say whether the authors knew the *specific* identity of the donors. But it is staggeringly obvious that they knew the money came *from the grouse moor industry*, which represents a serious, undeclared conflict of interest. Instead of owning up, they've made this "correction":
A third party has reported that the research covered by this article received funding from owners of land managed for sport shooting of Red Grouse. The evidence provided by the third party (a newspaper article from August 2017) exists in the public record and was available prior to the publication of this article. The Charities Aid Foundation, Newcastle University and the Durham University all confirm that due diligence was carried out on the organization making the donation and further confirm that the authors were not aware of the identity of the anonymous donor(s) prior to the publication of this article. However, in interests of clarity, the authors have chosen to publish a correction to include the following Conflict of Interest statement:CONFLICT OF INTEREST
This work was funded by an anonymous donation via the Southampton Row Trust Ltd., the Charities Aid Foundation American Donor Fund (CAF). A UK newspaper reported that this donation was funded by owners of land managed for sport shooting of Red Grouse. In accordance with the policies of the CAF, the name(s) of donor(s) were not disclosed to the universities or to the authors. The CAF, Newcastle University and Durham University all carried out due diligence investigations on the organization making the donation and each confirmed that the identity of the donor(s) has not been disclosed to the authors. The authors remain unaware of the specific identity of the funder(s) of this research. In accordance with the gift agreement, as stipulated by Newcastle University and Durham University, the results and conclusions presented in the article were not influenced by donors.

No one should miss out on care at the end of life. Yet 1 in 3 people in the UK do. ❗ That's why, alongside 14 other healthcare organisations, we've written to the Government to call for urgent investment in palliative and end of life care services.
Graphic designed as a letter to the UK Government. It reads: “Dear UK Government, Almost 1 in 3 people are missing out on end of life care. Your plans for improving palliative and end of life care are promising, but they need funding. We’re calling for a £200 million-a-year Transformation Fund for the next three years. It would mean more people getting the right care, earlier, closer to home, with fewer people being rushed to hospital in a crisis. Dying people can’t wait for change. Will you act? Sincerely, Marie Curie.” The phrases “1 in 3 people”, “£200 million-a-year” and “Will you act?” are highlighted in yellow.
