Well written @thinkorswim.bsky.social Battery electric trucks will beat a diesel powered freight train CO2 except on long runs (see North West to Waterford Port twice weekly). Shortage of drivers is bigger issue. More ports need to facilitate rail but no money for them either. #Budget2027

Say what you want about the Energy Commissioner and the President of the European Commission (who just posted the same message) but much of their messaging is bang on. 1) Dependence on fossil fuels is the problem 2) Protect the poorest 3) Electrify. But what can they do to achieve it?

As someone who will probably "benefit" from this in the next few weeks, this is a bad idea. I'm not being "helped to buy". Taxes I've already paid, and that could've gone to funding basic services, will instead be funneled to the wealthy developer of an overvalued property.

We’re stepping up support for Member States’ counter-drone capabilities. This builds on €250 million announced in 2025 and €169 million made available earlier this year for surveillance drones and related equipment. To strengthen border surveillance and respond to emerging security threats.
A large black drone flies above a smaller drone against a grey sky. Yellow text reads “DEFENCE”, with white text below: “Additional €130 million for EU drone and counter-drone capabilities”. The European Commission logo appears in the bottom right.

An interesting illustration from a new strategy report by MAN Trucks: ‘Beyond Diesel’. (more on that report later) It shows how the electrification of lorries must go beyond simply buying a different vehicle: it is about an entire smart energy ecosystem (including V2G on the right!)
The illustration shows a depot with trucks.
Highlights include energy storage, bidirectional technology, PV systems, energy trading, electricity contracts and charging hardware
It also indicates, by way of example, how Level 1 basic depot charging has lower charging costs than public charging. A further saving of 20–35 per cent is possible with smart depot charging (Level 2), and a further 10–20 per cent with advanced energy systems.
