When some comics became intangible online, paper became *visible* to artists again, leading to beautiful new paper comics. Now, when some "art" becomes inhuman, *we* become visible to ourselves again. What beautiful new *human* art might be the result?
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

I really do hope the one upside of the looming spectre of AI is that we see an era of Weird. Fucking. Shit. from artists who lean all the way into their humanity

Comment on Reddit: AI is here so the wealthy can feel talented, while making it impossible for the talented to become wealthy.

Listened to the review last night and Mark Kermode REALLY wasn't a fan. But he did compare it to several other films that he didn't like and that I really did. Sounds like it's going to be quite different to what I was expecting anyway.

Not sure but maybe Burnham has accidentally played a blinder by making anything other than expulsion look deeply suspicious.

UAE officials have warned the UK government that the severity of Man City's punishment could undermine their appetite for future grand-scale commitments in Britain, according to people familiar with the matter
They consider the Premier League's actions to have an influence on the bilateral state relationship, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing undisclosed information
The extraordinary pressure comes after Andy Burnham faced criticism, including from within government, for saying Man City's Abu Dhabi owners should not be disqualified specifically because of the investment they bring to Britain

I've said it before, I've said it again: Bluesky has a disproportionate and extremely loud percentage of users who think it's morally righteous to abuse people as long as it's for a good enough cause, and an even larger percentage of users who specialize in justifying why causes are good.

That’s Life! was just incredible. Its two most famous moments are a man being movingly celebrated by the now grown Jewish children he got out of Nazi Germany & a dog saying “sausages”. No other programme has ever had that range.

This is so stupid. Machines don't design the clothes they make. They just produce the clothes that humans designed. In the same way that machines make the books that humans wrote. Did AI generate Joyce's analogy?

Cultural post #1: Enjoyed S1 of Sugar on Apple TV but wasn’t sure if S2 would be worth watching after *EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED* (no spoilers) Actually it’s fantastic TV: cinematography, editing, music, script, the nods to Chandler and film noir. It’s nice to watch something unashamedly ‘arty’
Colin Farrell as a private detective in Sugar from Apple TV.

Personally, I think it's because the average person looks at writing, art, or listens to a song and thinks "I could do that." And theoretically, they could (if they put in the requisite time and effort). Most people don't look at Olympic medalists and assume they could easily swap places.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about Terry Pratchett's "Reaper Man" and AI. He was so ahead of his time in so many ways - or maybe squarely in his time but so many missed the very obvious signposts of where we were heading. Gonna be spoilers in this thread for a 25-year old book.

The iPod was unarguably great and useful. But within a few years, a lot of us had started thinking “I quite like actual records” and moved back to them, WITHOUT ANYBODY SCREAMING AT US THAT WE’D DISSED THE FUTURE. I like that we were allowed to decide whether we liked the new thing. That was nice.

On my first big overseas client conference, I was at a dinner seated next to a drunk client who kept trying to fondle me under the table. I was young, distressed, and had no idea what to do. I moved my legs as far away from him as I could, moving into the space of the man next to me, who then started patting my legs! The Regional Manager was a French woman who caught my eye, gestured for me to go to the bathroom and when I came back had switched chairs with me. What happed next was epic. A few minutes after I sat back down, she raised her hand with his hand captured in hers and announced loudly "Does anyone know whose hand this is? I found it in my lap." There was dead silence at the table. She threw his hand back at him and said calmly "next time I pick it up with my fork." Then she started a new conversational thread and things moved on. After the meeting she found me, gave me a hug, and said seriously "Never be afraid to make some noise. It is their shame, not yours."

So where's a good place to invest some money with a massive great return and not too much risk then? Probably a little too much to go the betfair route but don't want it sitting around in a crap bank account.
