#RecordOfTheWeek today is this fantastic Spurilla neapolitana, also known as the 'hair curler' sea slug spotted at Oxwich by Tate Lloyd, and is new to Wales! The first UK sighting was only last year in Cornwall. Many thanks for the record & photo, submitted via iRecord. irecord.org.uk

The photos are good enough to confirm the ID/verification so no need to retain the specimen in this case. Although microscopic examination is generally preferred for a water-tight confirmation.

Badumna longinqua for today's A-Z. New to the UK and probably spreading through plant trade. Check out your local garden centre, B+Q and especially B+M stores outdoor plant areas. You will likely find the distinctive web before any spider. Visit the BAS on YouTube for more info. #Aractober

Now we're outside the bird nesting season, our peatland restoration works are back underway at Cors y Sarnau Nature Reserve. Together with the help of three playful Carneddau ponies, we're removing saplings and scrub to keep the peat bog habitat open. 💚

Do you have nature records in notebooks that you never look at and wonder what to do with? I've transcribed 10,000 records from the 1960-70s from a Welsh ornithological legend into @birdtrack.bsky.social and @cofnod.org.uk. And it was fascinating... #BirdingWales www.cofnod.org.uk/news/natural...

A mite last seen 39 years ago. We will be walking the Welsh shore looking for it, and posting as we go. The site now has a live blog, a map of everywhere we have searched, and a Welsh option. I can't speak Welsh, but this is Wales. It needed a Welsh option. Thinozercon is out there. #inverts 🧪
Screenshot of the Lost Mite of the Irish Sea website on a phone, styled like a page from an old book: cream paper, a brown double ruled border, antique serif type. A bar across the top holds a Contents button, a CY button for Welsh, and an Aa button for text size. The title reads The Lost Mite of the Irish Sea, above the line Ireland, 1915 · Wales, 1987 · Then the record goes silent. The italic paragraph below reads: The hunt for one of the strangest and most mysterious arachnids of the Irish Sea shore. First found on Irish shores in 1915, then recorded once more in Wales in 1987 by Swansea researchers working in Milford Haven on a study part funded by the oil industry. Thinozercon has not been seen since. The Hunt for Thinozercon intends to change that.

Creating wildflower meadows 🌼 Recently, our staff and volunteers spent the day collecting and processing wildflower and grass seed from our magnificent meadows at Caeau Tan y Bwlch Nature Reserve. The seeds will be used to create and restore other meadows at various sites on the Llŷn Peninsula. 💚
Volunteers process the seeds by hand through various sieves to get rid of the unwanted leaves and stems, by NWWT.Once the seeds have been sorted, the leftover leaves and stems are released back on to the reserve, by NWWT.An ATV towed seed harvester is used to gather material which is then sorted by hand using various sieves. Seed this year will help restore meadows at our nearby Bryn Ifan site and other locations on the Llŷn Peninsula. By NWWT.
